S.H.I.E.L.D. FLYING WEDGE
Classification: Terrestrial technology
Creator: Unidentified S.H.I.E.L.D. scientists (possibly Tony Stark)
Users/Possessors: S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (including Timothy "Dum-Dum" Dugan, Gabe Jones and Eric Koenig)
First Appearance: Strange Tales I#140 (January, 1966)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The S.H.I.E.L.D. flying wedge is a giant harness which S.H.I.E.L.D. agents carry into battle. It can be disassembled into its components, carried by a squad, and assembled on the battlefield. The electro-jab at the tip of the wedge releases electric blasts at opponents.
Despite its name, the flying wedge does not fly.
History: (Strange Tales I#140) - When S.H.I.E.L.D. launched an all-out attack on Hydra, a team led by Dum-Dum Dugan and Gabe Jones employed the Flying Wedge against Hydra's Tiger Division. The flying wedge managed to hold them off for awhile, until the Tiger Division's Skateboard Unit encircled them and snatched the device away.
(Captain America I#190) - When several male S.H.I.E.L.D. agents at S.H.I.E.L.D. Central were placed under the control of Nightshade, she directed them after Captain America and the Falcon. Eric Koenig led a squad of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to attack them with the flying wedge, but Captain America blocked its blasts long enough for the Falcon to smash the electro-jab. However, the shock of hitting the electro-jab shorted out the Falcon's wings.
