History: (Captain Savage and his Battlefield Raiders#12 (fb) - BTS) - Father Thompson was a missionary who wound up on a Japanese-occupied island where Major Nagasha commanded a prison camp. Nagasha made use of Father Thompson as an interpreter for English-speaking captives, and came to trust him, but Thompson secretly intended to use his position to aid the Allies.
(Captain Savage and his Battlefield Raiders#12) - When the Leatherneck Raiders were placed in Major Nagasha's camp, Father Thompson was introduced to them, and he offered them a chance to escape. The Leathernecks were uncertain if they could trust him, but had no alternatives. When night fell, Father Thompson pretended that the Leathernecks were attacking him so that they could ambush the guards. Father Thompson killed a sentry, and was guilt-stricken for taking a human life. Father Thompson was hit by a sniper as they fled into the jungle, but it was a minor injury.
As they reached the boat which Father Thompson had intended to use for their escape, they found it guarded by Nagasha's superior officer, a colonel, and his men. Father Thompson made a white flag, and went forward, claiming to be a hostage of the Americans. The colonel trusted Father Thompson, and when he got close enough, Father Thompson pulled a gun and took his hostage. The colonel's men were forced to let Father Thompson and the Leathernecks have the boat, and Father Thompson went to Australia with the Leathernecks.
