First Appearance: X.S.E.#1 (November, 1996)
Powers/Abilities: Virago had the mutant ability to vibrate her legs, arms and hands so rapidly that she could shatter anything they came into contact with. All other capabilities appeared to be normal-athlete levels.
As a terrorist, she had no qualms about killing, including fellow mutants and children, in efforts to promote her violent cause.
Virago was Caucasian, slim, had dark green shoulder-length hair, with the large "M" tattoo-brand over her right eye that denoted mutant. She also had a small red heart tattoo with an arrow through it on her right shoulder. She also wore thick green earrings. She appeared to be about 5'8" tall. Her skintight and skin-revealing outfit left little, if any, room for any hidden weaponry.
History: The exact origins of Virago have not been revealed.
(X.S.E.#1 (fb)) - Virago was seen standing next to the hate-filled Daemon, who led the Exhumes in a war against humans, starting off with raids before leading the Exhumes in destroying the human settlement near Del Ray; it is inferred that Virago, as an active member of the Exhumes, was involved in this attack.
(X.S.E.#1 (fb) - BTS) - Virago established a reputation for killing civilians.
(X.S.E.#1 - BTS) - Virago committed a crime so heinous that warranted a kill order being issued against her by the X.S.E. Trace and Sureshot were ordered to carry this out.
(X.S.E.#1) - Pursued by X.S.E. soldiers Trace and Sureshot, Virago was finally cornered in the Mutant Relocation Camp in which Bishop and his sister, Shard, were born. Left with nowhere to run, Virago grabbed the nearby Shard, who was only a child at this time, to use as a hostage. Virago then threatened to kill the child if Sureshot did not let her leave the Camp unharmed.
Shard's protective older brother, Bishop, also still a child, launched himself at Virago in an effort to free his sister. Shard escaped and Virago threw Bishop aside, threatening to kill him for his act. Sureshot, with one shot left, used her ability to never miss to hit Virago from behind. Virago fell down dead. Virago's actions let Bishop see that Exhumes were not patriots or heroes. The X.S.E.'s actions against Virago in saving Bishop and Shard prompted Bishop to seek to become one of them.
Comments: Created by John Ostrander (writer), Chris Gardner (penciler) and Terry Austin (inker).
Technically, the story of Virago was all told in flashback, with Bishop going over his past with Shard in the X-Men's Danger Room. The artwork of this character, despite having very few panels, was haphazard, with wristbands and armbands appearing and disappearing, along with their golden insets.
A virago, as defined in the Little Macquarie Dictionary, is "a violent or ill-tempered scolding woman".
A possible alias could've been "Virago the Vibrator".
