History:

(Ghost Rider Annual#2/2 (fb)) - Ruby Avedon was an elderly woman who was harassed by local thugs. After they killed a fellow tenant, Ruby used the arcane knowledge taught to her by her mother and built a Gris-Gris Man made out of rags, trash and anything else she could find; sewing him together with thread soaked in rum and saltpepper. She sliced her hand to allow her blood to dribble into the Gris-Gris Man and called on Baron Cimeiere, Lord of Cemetaries, to give the being whom she named Cain life. She sent it to kill the thugs, which it did, and her rage not silenced, then sent it to kill other tenants who she believed had wronged her. When Michael Badilino, a cop who had been watching over the elderly tenants in their disputes with the local toughs arrived to check up on them, he found Cain murdering one of them.

(Ghost Rider Annual#2/2) - Badilino transformed into his alter ego Vengeance and battle Cain, tearing the Gris-Gris Man's arm off and punching a hole through its stomach area. When he finally ripped Cain apart, the elderly Ruby, mystically linked to Cain, died.

(Civil War Battle Damage Report#1 - BTS) - Cain apparently re-formed and was one of many super-powered beings  Iron Man (Tony Stark) kept a file on.

Ruby Avedon

Ruby was an elderly woman living in a complex with other older residents. They were constantly harrassed by a group of local toughs, and when Ruby confronted them, she was assaulted.
