CIRCUITS BREAKER
Classification: Flying weapon
Creator: Stane International
User/Possessors: Obadiah Stane
First Appearance: Iron Man I#198 (September, 1985)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Circuits Breaker comprised two relatively equal-sized parts. It was a massive armored creation with an assortment of weaponry including air-to-surface missiles mounted in the front section plus other smaller missiles and several heat projectors, much hotter than lasers, fitted in both sections. It was powered by two massive jets mounted at the back of the rear section and one jet at the back of the front section (once separated) that enabled it to fly at below subsonic speeds. There were also powerful jets mounted in the back "legs" for maneuverability of the automated unit. The front part housed a very sensitive scanner that was focused on the target. The second section was a highly destructive attack unit that would be activated once the target was properly identified.
History:
(Iron Man I#198 - BTS) - Obadiah Stane created a powerful automated weapon to be used against an opposing electronics firm, Circuits Maximus. It would only become active once Stane's main opponents, those whom he considered to be potential wearers of the Iron Man armor, were inside the Circuits Maximus dome, those three being James Rhodes, Clytemnestra Erwin and Morley Erwin. Stane's technicians dubbed it the "Circuits Breaker" for the target location.
(Iron Man I#198) - Obadiah Stane showed Madame Masque the Circuits Breaker as part of their discussions on how to deal with Iron Man. Stane explained the unit's function and its programmed human targets, although Masque wanted Tony Stark to also be considered a target. An alarm suddenly sounded when the three human targets were inside the Circuits Maximus dome and Stane launched the weapon, which flew out of a hatch at Stane's West Coast complex. However, Stark had anticipated some sort of aggressive move from Stane and had his detection equipment focused on Stane's base.
Rhodes and Stark quickly changed into their respective Iron Man armors and blasted off to tackle the flying weapon. It fired two surface-to-air missiles at the dome but these were easily destroyed by the Iron Men, although this proved to be a diversion for the firing of a cluster of missiles. These were also knocked out but the Circuits Breaker divided in two; Rhodes tackled the rear section while Stark took on the front. Rhodes' newer Iron Man armor quickly smashed the back section. However, Stark, in the old armor, was having great difficulty blocking the thermal projectors to safeguard the dome until Rhodes threw his destroyed section at the other, obliterating the flying weapon. Stane was very disappointed at the vaunted machine's failure.
