History:
(Defenders III#3) - Rulers of the Dark
Dimension, Dormammu and Umar pooled their powers and grew capable of attacking
Eternity, the cosmic embodiment of all life. Tapping into Eternity’s powers,
Dormammu remade the world in his image, completely rewriting the planet’s
history, and turning most life into a monstrous form and the city of New York
into an eerie sprawling metropolis. Dormammu altered many existing heroes into
darker versions of themselves, keeping a sadistic alternate version of Dr.
Strange by his side.
(Defenders III#5 (fb) - BTS) - Dormammu killed his Earth's Rick Jones and drove his Earth's Bruce Banner mad. Dormammu allowed his version of Sub-Mariner, William Everett Mackenzie, to keep leading a group of humans called the Defenders against Dormammu in hopeless causes.
(Defenders III#3) - When the real Dr. Strange and Sub-Mariner, who’d been captive in the Dark Dimension, returned to Dormammu’s Earth, Dormammu sensed them but chose not to act against them yet.
(Defenders III#4) - Dormammu's Strange tortured Clea, using Dormammu's Thing against her. His Strange martialed many of Dormammu's minions (Beast, Black Knight, Cage, Captain America, Cyclops, Daredevil, Falcon, Iceman, Iron Fist, Iron Man, Medusa, Speedball, Spider-Man, Thor, Wolverine) against Sub-Mariner, but the hero managed to join forces with Mackenzie and the Defenders. Dormammu's Strange captured the real Strange.
(Defenders III#5 (fb) - BTS) - Dr. Strange managed to get the drop on Dormammu's Strange and cast an illusion to change places with him.
(Defenders III#5) - The Defenders allied with Umar and the real Hulk. Dormammu was coaxed into assuming his human form, then easily defeated when Hulk crushed his head. Umar erased Dormammu's Earth and restored the real one.
