History: (Avengers I#254) - When the Vision
took over the world's computer systems, he claimed that a new age would be
ushered as long as he remained in control. At that same time, the screens
at the North American Air Defense Command began playing television shows
such as The Muppet Show, I Love Lucy, and commercials for a fast food
restaurant. Gen. Peabody of the Command immediately demanded to know what
was going on and a nearby Command officer explained that they had tried to
run a test simulation when all the screens went funny. The officer then explained
that they were locked out of their own computer systems due to some sort
of interference signal. General Peabody immediately ordered the officer to
trace the signal. Once the Vision's connection to the computers was severed
and the control of the systems returned to the Air Defense Command, General
Peabody angrily announced that the Avengers' access to secure government
lines was about to change.
(Avengers I#255) - Peabody soon visited the Pentagon and demanded to
know why something wasn't done about the Vision taking over the world's
computers. While there, he got into a heated argument with the Avengers'
security liason Raymond Sikorski. Their argument was interrupted by a fax
sent over by the Vision to Sikorski, explaining that everything had been
his fault and that he was resigning chairmanship of the Avengers immediately.
