GRAND JHAR
Membership: C'efn, Cerise, others
Purpose: To bring new cultures into the Shi'ar Empire
Affiliations: Lilandra
Base of Operations: Shi'ar Empire
First Appearance: Excalibur I#69 (September, 1993)
History:
(Excalibur I#69 (fb) - BTS) - The Grand Jhar was a fleet of the Shi'ar military sent forth on conversion missions to expand the borders of the Shi'ar Empire, marrying other alien cultures to the Shi'ar. One branch of the Grand Jhar was led by C'efn, a bloodthirsty commander, who received a new recruit, Cerise, to his crew. The Grand Jhar bombed the alien Knsashii, committing genocide on the peaceful race, figuring the survivors would be happy to join the Shi'ar.
(Excalibur I#69 (fb)) - When Cerise saw the genocide, she was disgusted and overwhelmed. C'efn excused his actions, and murdered a surviving child to prove his point, telling Cerise she had better be prepared for their next battle. Cerise was disgusted, however, and vowed to stop the Grand Jhar.
(Excalibur I#70 (fb)) - Cerise overrode the Grand Jhar's ship controls and programmed it to fly into the heart of a nearby sun. She recorded a message to the Shi'ar Empire explaining her actions, then abandoned ship. C'efn and the others were all killed in the subsequent explosion.
(Marvel Comics Presents I#149/3 (fb) - BTS) - For some time the planet of the Aris race was harassed by a recruitment vessel of the Ghrand Jhar, but their planet's force field was powerful enough to protect them from the intruders.
Comments: Created by Scott Lobdell, Evan Skolnick, Steve Buccellato and Don Hudson.
Cerise was hunted by the Shi'ar for years after this. When Lilandra learned the truth of her actions, Cerise was assigned to serve Lilandra as her personal operative instead of going to jail.
