Powers/Abilities: The Monotony Man was able to physically manifest and produce an unidentified gray-black material from his hands. The substance was unknown but may have been related to the Dark Force as it was able to darken the surroundings in a widespread area. Anyone caught within this effect would become complacent and bored. The effects quickly wore off when he lost concentration and focus. Other effects are as yet unknown.
History:
(Iron Man in "A Dull Pain" - BTS) - For many years, the man who would one day become the Monotony Man was rejected by people and society for his dull and boring personality. He swore revenge on the world. Being a mutant, or else mutated by acquiring superhuman powers, he planned his revenge.
(Iron Man in "A Dull Pain") - Monotony Man began using his powers on the eve of April Fool’s Day, generating grey-black waves of energy throughout the city of New York, darkening the skies and minds of others and bringing misery and boredom. Tony Stark donned his Iron Man armor and vowed to end the madman’s effect on the city. The next day, on April Fool’s Day, Iron Man discovered the Monotony Man in Central Park and began dropping Hostess cupcakes on the crowds of dreary and bored people nearby. The power of the tasty Hostess treats quickly restored their spirits. Losing control over his power to affect people's minds, the Monotony Man yelled at Iron Man about spoiling his fun and quickly ran away.

The moral of this story is the best way to beat boredom is to eat a Hostess snack or the best way to beat a villain is to use a Hostess snack as a weapon ... food fight!
Of all the Hostess villains, only Icemaster has shown up in an Earth-616 title. He could have crossed over to Earth-616 from "Earth-Hostess," but I say leave them on Earth-616 until proven otherwise. Nonetheless, until they do show up in regular continuity, they remain outside regular canon. Surely someone will write a story teaming them all together.---Snood.
This is not true anymore as some Hostess ad villains were mentioned in the Fantastic Four Encyclopedia as natives of Earth-616. And lets not forget about Printout Man in the New Avengers Most Wanted Files.
You can get the whole story, and some clever commentary from Seanbaby's The Hostess Page. It might not meet with the Comics Code Authority's approval, so kids, ask your parents before checking that out!
