Aliases: Quasar
Base of Operations: Mobile throughout Shi'ar Empire
First Appearance: (Unidentified) X-Men I#107 (October, 1977); (named as Quasar) Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe I#5 (May, 1983); (as Neutron) Avengers West Coast#81 (April, 1991)
Powers/Abilities: Neutron possesses the ability to absorb electromagnetic and kinetic energy into his body cells to enhance his physical strength. He can survive in space and travel interstellar distances without needing to eat, drink, or breathe. He can fly, either under his own power or by utilizing a Shi'ar anti-gravity device, enough to propel himself across vast distances in space. Neutron possesses a hyper-dense core, directly related to the black hole singularity inside him. It is unknown if his abilities are possessed by his entire race or solely him. The full extent of his abilities are likely unknown. It appears that Neutron is incredibly long-lived as he appears to have been around hundreds of years ago.
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 680 lbs.
History:
(X-Men I#107) - Members of the Imperial Guard fought the X-Men (Banshee, Colossus, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Phoenix (Jean Grey), Storm, Wolverine) and Starjammers (Ch'od, Corsair, Cr+eee, Hepzibah, Raza) at the M'kraan Crystal, in order to stop them from rescuing Lilandra from D'ken and Davan Shakari. During the battle, Quasar was knocked aside by Wolverine. Quasar later punched Wolverine away, but was ultimately defeated by the mutant. D'ken was rendered comatose and Lilandra took over as the new Majestrix. Members of the Guard in this mission: Astra, Electron, Fang, Gladiator, Hobgoblin, Impulse, Magic, Mentor, Midget, Nightside, Oracle, Quasar, Smasher, Starbolt, Tempest, and Titan.
(X-Men I#108) - The Guard lay unconscious as the battle resolved.
(X-Men I#109 (fb) - BTS) - The Guard was stopped by Lilandra from killing the X-Men. Later the Guard watched the X-Men return to Earth.
(Uncanny X-Men I#157) - Members of the Guard were assigned to assist Lord Samédàr in attacking the Earth. Nightcrawler and Shadowcat convinced Gladiator, N'rill'iree, Oracle, and Starbolt that Dark Phoenix was attacking the ship, then had Oracle read their minds to prove that Samédàr was acting against Lilandra's orders. Other members of the Guard loyal to Samédàr attacked and a fight ensued until a Brood weapon attached to B'nee (of the Warstar duo) knocked them all unconscious. During the battle, Quasar had been easily knocked aside by Gladiator. Samédàr prepared to destroy the Earth with the four guard members, two X-Men, and Captain K'rk watching, but Lilandra revealed herself and stopped him. Guard members in this mission included: Blackthorn, Fang, Gladiator, Hussar, N'rill'iree, Oracle, Quasar, Starbolt, Warstar, Webwing, and others.
(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#2) - Members of the Imperial Guard participated in an initial assault on the Starjammers (Binary, Ch'od, Corsair, Cr+eee, Hepzibah, Raza) at Deathbird's orders. When Binary blew a hole through the ship's wall, they briefly tried to save the Shi'ar on board while Quasar worked to protect Deathbird, but Deathbird ordered them to teleport away, leaving the soldiers to their fate. They battled with the Starjammers, and Quasar protected Deathbird from Corsair. Cr+eee appeared and knocked Quasar into machinery, which put Quasar unconscious. Zenith was killed during the battle. Guard members who participated in the initial assault: Hussar, Manta, Quasar, Warstar, and Zenith.
(Avengers West Coast#81) - Neutron and Starbolt waited aboard the Guard ship while Hobgoblin and Scintilla brought Atlas of the Kree aboard, stealing his Nega-Bands. Starbolt and Neutron left to fight Quasar (Wendell Vaught) and Her while Hobgoblin, Scintilla, and Atlas fled back to the Shi'ar Empire. Neutron immediately got Quasar in a hold and began draining his energy.
(Quasar#33) - Members of the Imperial Guard attacked Quasar and Her when the heroes neared the Guard ship. Neutron was absorbing Quasar's energy and turning it into strength, but Quasar deposited Neutron in the Quantumverse and left him there. He boarded their ship and the Guard agreed to release Atlas to him so as not to damage the ship. Quasar quickly departed before they could pursue him. Guard members in this mission: Electron, Hobgoblin, Manta, Neutron, Nightside, Oracle, Scintilla, Starbolt, Tempest, and Warstar.
(Quasar#45 (fb)) - Quasar managed to get his hand in Quasar's warp hole into the Quantumverse, and remained trapped there in space for an undetermined amount of time before Presence grabbed his hand and was pulled through to where Quasar was. He at some point decided to use the name Neutron instead, and identified himself as “fourth lieutenant” in the Imperial Guard. He and Presence realized they both wanted revenge on Quasar on Earth, and spent the following month utilizing their powers to travel at warp speed propulsion to Earth. They tracked Quasar down and found the hero battling the Anti-Bodies. Presence attacked Quasar, who propelled Presence into space. Neutron pursued them and accidentally punched Presence, breaching his ally's armor and causing a large explosion. Presence and Quasar fell back to Earth, where the Shock Troop (Blazing Skull, Dr. Druid, Living Mummy, Shadowoman) arrived to help Quasar against the Anti-Bodies.
(Quasar#46) - Neutron returned to Earth and attacked Quasar anew, resisting Quasar's attempts to reason with him. (Neutron identified himself as a Stygian). Quasar convinced Presence to leave the battle, but Neutron kept fighting until Glom, Moondancer, and Voyager, of the Imperial Guard, arrived to retrieve Neutron. They reminded him that he hadn't activated his locator, and he was shamed, admitting he'd been negligent and focused on revenge. After Glom ate all the Anti-Bodies, Neutron departed with the Guard, promising Quasar he'd still get his revenge.
(Starblast#2) - Gladiator ordered the humans aboard the battle-cruiser (Binary, Black Bolt, Captain Marvel (Monica Rambeau), Darkstar, Ikaris, Lockjaw, Perun, Quasar (Wendell Vaughn), Vanguard) to leave, but they refused. After some brief explanations by Gladiator, more of the Imperial Guard teleported aboard to investigate. After a deadly battle, during which Neutron traded blows with Perun, the humans agreed to surrender the ship if the Shi'ar would help the humans pursue the Black Fleet. Guard members in this mission included: Gladiator, Manta, Moondanacer, Neutron, Nightside, Smasher, Solar Wind, Starbolt, and Voyager.
(Quasar#55) - The Guard helped Earth's heroes to get to the Stranger's Lab World where the Starblasters resided. Neutron didn't join them in their fight against.
(X-Men Legends I#2) - The Imperial Guard was summoned to the Blue Area of the Moon by Corsair and the Starjammers, and they helped return X-Treme (Adam-X) to Chandilar for judgment.
(Starjammers I#4) - Members of the Guard were summoned to aid Lilandra against the Uncreated, but the Starjammers saw the threat defeated first. They stood by when Lilandra ordered T'cahr arrested. Members of the Guard in this mission included: Electron, Fang, Flashfire, Gladiator, Nightside, Oracle, Scintilla, Smasher, Starbolt, and Titan.
(Inhumans IV#3) - The Shi'ar Empire decided to join in alliance with the massive Spartoi Empire. Religious ceremonies were to be held on the neutral planet, Kritnah. Lilandra arrived with the Guard flanking her. Guard members in this mission: Astra, Gladiator, Hussar, Neutron, and Oracle.
(Inhumans IV#4) - Lilandra represented the Shi'ar Empire on the planet Kritnah in the marriage ceremony with Emperor Eson of the Spartoi while the Imperial Guard stood by. Black Bolt moved to attack Lilandra, who set up a shield and activated the Guard against the Inhumans. Black Bolt screamed, seemingly slaying Lilandra. The Guard moved in at full force. The Inhumans teleported away, escaping. Lilandra's form was revealed to be Hobgoblin, who appeared to be dead. Lilandra, as a hologram, revealed herself and told the Spartoi that the union was off due to their atrocities. Jason of Sparta was blamed for being behind it. Members of the Guard in this mission: Astra, Delphos, Earthquake, Fang, Flashfire, Gladiator, Hobgoblin, Hussar, Impulse, Mentor, Neutron, Nightside, Oracle, Smasher, Starbolt, Titan, Warstar, others
(Uncanny X-Men I#387 (fb) - BTS) - Hussar, Warstar, Neutron, and Webwing were expelled from the Guard for unknown reasons revolving around treason. When Earth became a prison planet, they were sent there to serve their time. They allied with the D'Bari Starhammer and agreed to go after the X-Men.
(Uncanny X-Men I#387) - Starhammer's Mandroids attacked the X-Men (Beast, Cable, Gambit, Phoenix (Jean Grey), Rogue) in New Orleans, with the former Guardsmen acting as backup. Hussar shocked Cable with her whip, setting him up for Neutron to punch him out more than once. Rogue attacked Neutron, whose punches had no effect on her. After he explained the Guard's involvement, Neutron was sent flying with a punch. The Guardsmen, all defeated, were left tied up.
(Thanos#10 (fb)) - Gladiator led Electron, Oracle and Quasar (Neutron) to investigate the sudden disappearance of the entire Shi'ar settlement of Eru-7. There, they discovered that the Maker (formerly the Beyonder) had wiped out 64,000 people, and Oracle contained the threat.
(JLA/Avengers#1) - The Imperial Guard fought Lobo. Members of the Guard in this mission: Astra, Fang, Electron, Flashfire, Hobgoblin, Hussar, Impulse, Magique, Manta, Mentor, Neutron, Nightside, Oracle, Scintilla, Smasher, Starbolt, Titan, Warstar.
(Uncanny X-Men I#477 - BTS) - The Imperial Guard was dispatched to defeat Vulcan, who'd been destroying ships in Shi'ar space
(Uncanny X-Men I#480) - The Guard finally defeated Vulcan (keeping him alive at the orders of K'tor) after a deadly battle which left some Guard members, including Neutron, Cosmo, Impulse, Smasher, and Titan, seemingly slain. During the battle, Neutron and Cosmo leaped on Vulcan, absorbing much of his energy, but Vulcan manipulated the energy against them, and the ensuing blast defeated them, leaving Cosmo's form eaten away. Guard members in this mission: Astra, Cosmo, Electron, Gladiator, Hobgoblin, Impulse, Manta, Mentor, Neutron, Nightside, Oracle, Plutonia, Scintilla, Smasher, Starbolt, and Titan.
(War of Kings#1 (fb) - BTS) - Neutron either survived or was replaced by another member of his race. (see comments)
(War of Kings#1) - Vulcan surveyed, with Gladiator, the assembled Imperial Guard, taking special notice of Neutron, Plutonia, Manta, the new Smasher, Squorm, and Starbolt. Mentor reported they were all battle ready and Vulcan announced his intentions to attack the Kree. They soon engaged in a massive battle with the Inhumans and Starjammers, successfully capturing Lilandra before retreating. Members of the Guard in this mission: Astra, Black Light, Earthquake, Electron, Fang, Flashfire, Gladiator, Hussar, Impulse, Magique, Manta, Mentor, Neutron, Nightside, Plutonia, Schism, Scintilla, Shapeshifter, Smasher, Squorm, Starbolt, Titan, Voyager, Warstar, and White Noise.
(Guardians of the Galaxy II#14) - As Warlock battled Vulcan, the Imperial Guard (Fang, Hussar, Magique, Mentor, Neutron, Oracle, Scintilla) rushed to help. Vulcan was furious with them when Warlock escaped, but they magically tracked him to Knowhere, using Voyager to transport them, and found a battle breaking out between the Guardians of the Galaxy (Gamora, Jack Flag, Mantis, Martyr, Moondragon, Star-Lord, Warlock) and the Inhumans (Black Bolt, Crystal, Gorgon, Karnak).
(War of Kings: Who Will Rule?#1) - Under Mentor's lead several Imperial Guard members (Astra, Black Light, Earthquake, Fang, Hussar, Impulse, Neosaurus, Neutron, Plutonia, Schism, Smasher, Squorm, Starbolt, Titan, Warstar) attended Lilandra's funeral. In front of the Inhuman Royal Family Mentor declared the Imperial Guard rulers of the Shi'ar Empire. Medusa attacked Mentor and Smasher, causing a big brawl between the Inhumans and the Imperial Guard. Gladiator hit the ground with a devastating punch, knocking out everyone around him, and asked everyone present to show some resepect for Lilandra. Crystal then gave Gladiator the sceptre and asked him to rule the Shi'ar Empire. The Imperial Guard bowed before him, accepting his rule.
(Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard#4 (fb) - BTS) - After joining with Deathbird against Lilandra, all the members of the Guard received official pardons. Neutron's family on Stygia, though, chose to disown him.
(Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard#2 (fb) - BTS) - Oracle helped Neutron's imbalance through various hypnotic sessions, teaching Neutron how to keep his hyper-dense core in balance.
(Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard#1) - When the planet of Izumbard refused to create more warships for the Shi'ar, the Imperial Guard (Earthquake, Electron, Flashfire, Neutron, Plutonia, Titan, Voltar, Warstar) were sent to quell the riots. During the ensuing battle, Voltar was killed. Another branch of the Guard (Commando, Fang, Gladiator, Hussar, Manta, Starbolt) soon arrived to aid in the battle. Later, at their barracks, they proposed a toast, and Manta recognized the loss of Voltar. Fang expressed his distaste with Gladiator on the throne, but Neutron defended Gladiator, causing Warstar to tease Neutron about the black hole singularity within him. An angry Neutron punched Warstar, and Hussar hit Neutron with her whip. When Mentor, Smasher, and Oracle interrupted the fight, Mentor told them that they'd just volunteered for a special strike force mission due to their bad behavior. The next day, they learned they'd be going for recon into the Fault, the rip in time and space, alongside Ch'od and Raza of the Starjammers.
(Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard#2) - After being briefed by Gladiator, the Imperial Guard (Fang, Flashfire, Hussar, Manta, Mentor, Neutron, Oracle, Plutonia, Smasher, Starbolt, Warstar) were sent into the Fault to investigate, with Ch'od and Raza among them. The ship was soon under attack by energy leeches and the crew struggled to stay in the air. When one breached the ship, Mentor ordered Warstar not to fire on it, but to instead trap it in a force field, in which the creature fed upon itself. Mentor recommended the ship run on silent so as not to attract more leeches, and Ch'od reluctantly agreed. Within minutes, a giant ship approached, and they prepared the Starjammer for battle. The ship, bio-organic in nature, fired on them, and then caught them in a tractor beam, pulling it inside. As they battled off biological monsters, Oracle surmised they were aboard a rotting corpse that was seeking to use its enzymes to kill them.
(Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard#3) - Over the following six hours, as the dead ship grew around the Starjammer, the Guard worked to repair their ship. As Warstar and Neutron checked in with the scouting party, Oracle soon discovered the ship had been killed while running from something else. As enzymes attacked them, they realized they need to rush away before they were digested, and they narrowly escaped. They soon came across a massive field of debris. They followed an energy signature, hoping to find Vulcan, when Warstar and Neutron were hit by a massive energy burst. When the air cleared, they saw Quasar (Wendell Vaughn) there, with a massive biological entity pursuing him.
(Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard#4) - Oracle managed to send a telepathic call for help through Quasar's quantum powers into the M'Kraan Crystal, reaching Gladiator. . The Guard hid themselves in the debris zone and outside, the Guard (Fang, Flashfire, Neutron, Smasher, Starbolt, Warstar) worked on gathering debris to act as a buffer and shield around their ship.. Soon, Fang proposed a final toast of Aedian Psi-Wine, away from Mentor, and suspecting they might all die. On the ship, Ch'od realized someone had sabotaged their ship, and Mentor realized it must be the new Smasher, who was soon revealed as Talon of the Fraternity of Raptors. Talon had retrieved two amulets of power from the Fault and claimed he could use them to give the team greater firepower for the coming battle. Outside the xenoform beings attacked in the form of the X-Men and Starbolt was quickly killed in battle. Gladiator then arrived to aid them.
(Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard#5 (fb)) - Gladiator had more of the Guard (Arc, Black Light, Commando, Electron, G- Type, Moondancer, Titan, Voyager, White Noise) assembled at his order, to rescue the stranded team (Fang, Flashfire, Hussar, Manta, Mentor, Neutron, Oracle, Plutonia, Warstar), with Ch'od, Raza, Talon (previously thought to be Smasher), and Quasar, from within the Fault. Voyager, with great strain, opened a gateway to within the Fault, then stayed behind while Moondancer used her powers to guide them through the debris and to the ship, which was surrounded by bizarre and deadly xenoform beings patterned after the X-men.
(Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard#5) - The two sides of the Guard savagely attacked the aliens, killing them swiftly and decisively. Mentor soon reported to Gladiator that "an abominable universe of reciprocal otherness" was upon them from the other side of the Fault, full of cancerous aggression and new physical laws. Talon then ensured them that using his amulets would allow them to create two more Raptor beings, and Mentor and Plutonia volunteered, becoming Strel and Kyte respectively. Fang slashed at the Wolverine being and was saved when Neutron defeated the creature with a power blast. Later, though, one of the beings ripped Neutron apart from the inside while Fang cried out for his friend. During the battle, Black Light was also killed. Later, Neutron was honored on Elysium VII, resting place for the thousands of dead Guard. A new Neutron was appointed in his place.
(Wolverine and the X-Men Annual#1) - At the Imperial Guard training school, Kid Gladiator provided his report to the others about his time on Earth. In earshot were Titan, Warstar, the Manta trainees, the Fang trainees, and the Smasher trainees, including Subguardian Smasher-7. Other trainees included those seeking to become Starbolt, Oracle, Plutonia, Neutron, Flashfire, Hussar, Electron, and others, but Kid Gladiator was the only one in his program. Against his father's orders, he joined the Smasher trainees (including numbers 10, 11, and 12), the Avengers, and the Imperial Guard (including Monstra and Arc).
(Thanos: The Infinity Relativity#1) - On Chandilar, the Imperial Guard, notified by Mentor, noticed a new energy source on New Kral and investigated. Gladiator, Manta, and Neutron did battle with the forces of Annihilus, who was Hulk-powered and could send waves of fear out into others. Annihilus defeated Gladiator in single combat. Thanos sent him back to marshall the forces of the Shi'ar.
SECRET WARS III HAPPENED
(Thanos
II#2) – The Imperial Guard (Flashfire, Smasher (Izzy Kane), Starbolt,
Fang, Impulse) showed up on the Shi’ar planet, Nulla, to arrest Thanos.
(Thanos
II#3) – On Nulla, the Imperial Guard (Flashfire, Starbolt, Fang,
Smasher (Izzy Kane), Impulse, Neutron, Plutonia, Manta, Hardball,
Hobgoblin, Nightside, Oracle, Titan, Gladiator) savagely attacked
Thanos, with more members backing them up. Though Thanos fought hard,
they soon realized he was bleeding and wounded, and Gladiator delivered
the final blow. Thanos was apprehended. (Thanos
II#5) – The Imperial Guard (Impulse, Hardball, Smasher (Izzy Kane),
Nightside, Manta, Titan, Fang, Neutron, Hobgoblin) delivered Thanos to
a secure Shi’ar prison, where Warden Daak saw his safe imprisonment.
(Mighty Thor II#15) - Gladiator, Kid Gladiator, Warbird, the Shi'ar, and a contingent of the Imperial Guard (Warstar, Smasher/Isabel Kane, Neutron, Manta, Starbolt) went to Asgardia, where they confronted Heimdall before other Asgardians and Thor (Jane Foster) rushed in to face them. The Shi'ar snagged Thor and returned her to Shi'ar space, where Sharra and K'ythri were prepared to face her in M'Kraan Palace. More members of the Guard (Webwing, Hussar, Oracle, Hobgoblin) met them there.
(Mighty Thor II#16) - The Imperial Guard (Smasher/Isabel Kane, Starbolt, Neutron, Manta, Hussar, Hobgoblin, Oracle, Warstar) saw Sharra and K'ythri challenge Thor to a contest. When Gladiator tried standing up for them, they humbled him physically.
(Mighty Thor II#17) - Gladiator (and Kid Gladiator) led the Imperial Guard (Astra, Plutonia, Hobgoblin, Starbolt, Oracle, Manta, Neutron, Fang, Electron, Warstar, Webwing, Hussar, Smasher (Isabel Kane)) against the Asgardians, but the Destroyer was unleashed to fight them back.
(Mighty Thor II#18 - BTS) - Gladiator kept the Imperial Guard off to the side during the battle between gods.
(Asgardians of the Galaxy#2) - On Chandilar, Gladiator assembled the Imperial Guard (Warstar, Manta, Neutron, Smasher (Izzy Kane), Oracle) to stand against Nebula, who unleashed the Naglfar Armada against them, including an undead Thor.
(Asgardians of the Galaxy#3) - The Imperial Guard were overwhelmed by the Naglfar Armada's powers. Neutron was felled by an undead Odin. The Asgardians of the Galaxy arrived to help end the fight, then the Nova Corps showed up.
(Guardians of the Galaxy V#1) - Aboard the Sanctuary, Starfox (badly scarred and in a hover-chair) assembled many heroes, including the Imperial Guard, the Starjammers, Adam Warlock, Wraith, Firelord, Cosmo, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Beta Ray Bill, Major Victory, Howard the Duck, Shi’ar Death Commandos, and Moondragon and Phyla-Vell (alternates), as he stood over the corpse of Thanos. Starfox triggered a recording of Thanos from before his death, and Thanos stated that he had made arrangements to have his consciousness uploaded into the mind of another, causing panic among those assembled. Starfox believed Gamora was the most likely candidate. Meanwhile, aboard the Ryder (new ship named after Winona), Star-Lord and Groot discovered that Knowhere was missing, and the Nova Corps informed them it was headed to Sanctuary. Knowhere attacked Sanctuary, with Outriders and the Black Order behind it all. A black hole and most of the participants were pulled through and sent through to other places in the cosmos.
(New Mutants IV#7) - Deathbird tried killing Oracle, but Gladiator seized the spear and threw it back. A fight broke out between the New Mutants and the Imperial Guard (Mentor, Hussar, Neutron, Manta), but they soon made peace. Xandra appointed Oracle and Deathbird as her advisors.
(X-Men V#8) - The Imperial Guard (Oracle, Manta) summoned Gladiator, who'd been hunting Brood with Kid Gladiator, informing him that a man dressed as a Kree Accuser (King Vulcan) was in Shi'ar space. A fight broke out, with Cannonball hitting Manta after she doused the room in light, Karma taking control of Mentor and Hussar, after she'd wrapped her whip around Cypher's neck, Smasher knocking Oracle out of the air, and Magik, Mondo, Chamber, and Wolfsbane attacked Neutron. In the end, Oracle's crimes were exposed and she was appointed as advisor at Xandra's side along with Deathbird.
(S.W.O.R.D. II#9) - A delegation of the Imperial Guard (Gladiator, Titan, Manta, Fang, Neutron) accompanied Xandra, Deathbird, and Cannonball through the Krakoan gateway on Chandilar to the ship, the Keep, above the mutant planet of Arakko. Fang and Gladiator made sure that there were no shapeshifters in the room, but the new Lethal Legion (Death Grip, Electric Head, Half-Bot, Mr. Eloquent, Orbis Extrimis) attacked. Fang was quickly killed by Half-Bot as the Electric Head stripped Gladiator of his confidence, then Mr. Eloquent hit Neutron with his atomic chainsaw and Neutron was lost in the singularity within himself. Titan kicked Orbis Stellaris away, then Death Grip killed Titan with a touch. Storm soon joined the battle and helped turn the tides.
(S.W.O.R.D. II#10) - As the Lethal Legion departed, Manta and Gladitor (still struggling with confidence) regrouped over the corpses of Fang and Titan, with Neutron gone. More Lethal Legions arrived to fight, but Storm swiftly defeated them.
(Marauders II#5) - The Imperial Guard (Gladiator, Fang, Oracle, Neutron) saw Xandra, with Deathbird at her side, returned to the throne. Somnus spent the night with Neutron.
Comments: Created by Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, and Dan Green.
Quasar/Neutron is pictured in OHotMU I#5 and has a partial entry in OHotMU Deluxe Edition#6.
Though we don't know it for sure the Neutron that served centuries ago with the Imperial Guard most likeley was a predecessor of the Neutron profiled here.
(Uncanny X-Men I#479 (fb) - BTS) – The first Imperial Guard was formed centuries ago to fight Rook'shir, possessor of the Phoenix force (also called the Phal'kon). Among its first members were Gladiator, Magic, Mentor, and Quasar.
(Uncanny X-Men I#479 (fb)) - The Guard apprehended Rook'shir, and Gladiator beheaded him.
The Imperial Guard members are
generally based on DC's Legion of Super-Heroes. Neutron is based on
Star Boy. His name was changed to Neutron when the character then known
as Marvel Man (Wendell Vaughn) changed his name to Quasar.

Note that the same panel that shows
Cosmo's corpse also shows Neutron - have a look at it and tell me, does
that wound look survivable? I think we are looking at another demise
and replacement. Neutron was clearly reasonably intelligent. However
the Neutron in Realm of Kings is a dimwit who barely comprehends
anything.
