History: (Kid Colt, Outlaw#115 (fb)) - Sam Scorpio was an inventor who used his "sting" to terrorize the west, frightening those who could not discern how he could injure people by simplying pointing at them.

(Kid Colt, Outlaw#115) - The Scorpion encountered Kid Colt while on the run from a fifty-man posse, and asked for the Kid's aid. The Kid refused, but suddenly an earthquake started up, and they hid under a boulder. When they emerged, the posse had caught up and took them to prison. Behind bars, the Scorpion used his "sting" on a guard then got out with the guard's keys, and forced Kid Colt to come with him. He took Colt to a hideout in the hills, intending to be partners with him, but when Colt asked what his secret was, the Scorpion turned on him. Colt shot out the lamp for cover from the "sting," but the Scorpion fled, and told a posse where to find Colt.

The Scorpion set up a gang, keeping them in line with fear of the "sting." However, Colt went after the Scorpion, having figured out what his gimmick was. Colt defeated his gang, then bested the Scorpion in hand-to-hand combat before he could fire the "sting." Colt turned the Scorpion and his gang over to the law.

(Kid Colt, Outlaw#118) - The Scorpion wound up in a state prison on a chain gang alongside fellow owlhoots Dr. Danger and Bull Barton. When Kid Colt wound up in the same prison after turning himself over to the law, the trio saw a chance for revenge. One day, they attacked Colt in unison while on work detail. When a guard intervened, they overpowered the guard and took his gun, then used it to break their chains. They grazed Colt with another bullet and fled.

Across the border, the trio came to a town where Fred Yates lived, the same man Colt had given himself up to. When they confronted Yates and his sister Susan, Fred fled in sheer terror. Kid Colt caught up to the trio and quickly disarmed them, rescuing Susan. He then sent them back across the border to the waiting arms of the law.

(Marvel Westerns: Outlaw Files) - The Scorpion's exploits were recounted in a newspaper clipping found in Hamilton Slade's scrapbook.

You would think that the mystery of his "sting" would have been figured out by the first victim who dug a bullet from his arm...
