Powers/Abilities: Slippery Sam had the natural ability to slide out of anyone’s grasp. He was a red-haired teenager with a penchant for “Babylon 5”, and was smart enough to develop slime shooters, similar in design and shape to Spider-Man’s web shooters, which fired a stream of green, very slippery slime. He was a fast runner, but had no scruples about robbing people for his own personal gain, and became greedy and overconfident with his success as a minor criminal. As Slippery Sam, he wore a green full body outfit with knee and elbow pads, which helped him become virtually frictionless, plus an open-face helmet.

History:

(J2#4/2 (fb)) - Samsbury Winthrow was born with the natural talent to wriggle free from anyone’s grasp, later learning to slide (which helped in school baseball games). He became a common thief, snatching purses and easily evading pursuing police by slipping out of their grasp. He developed slime shooters and dubbed himself “Slippery Sam”, selecting a full body suit and helmet. He chose a life of crime, stealing money from gas stations, as well as liquor and convenience stores.

(J2#4/2) – Slippery Sam chose to rob Gateway Mall but, unfortunately for him, Zane Yama (also known as the Avenger, J2) was there too. Zane transformed into his alter ego after he saw Slippery Sam dashing through the mall with security guards falling over themselves, unable to grab the thief. J2 tackled the green slider, but was downed by a blast from Sam’s slime shooters. J2 was unable to grab Sam, who taunted the hero. J2 them pounded the mall’s floor, which caused the mall’s internal fountain to break open, the water pushing Slippery Sam towards J2, who then punched him into the air; the villain was thrown up high and then arrested by police.

    Two weeks later, after being convicted of his crimes, Samsbury Winthrow slipped on a bar of soap in the shower and was sent to hospital where he had a full body cast from head to toe, indicating that quite a few bones were broken.

The story’s title dubbed him as “Slippery Sam, the Sliding Man”.

His slippery powers, if they could be called that, manifested while he was still a baby, so potentially he might be considered a mutant.
