SOL-MAC
Classification: Terrestrial technology
Creator: Unidentified scientists of Chem-Solar Corporation
Users/Possessors: Baron Brimstone
First Appearance: Machine Man I#16 (August, 1980)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Sol-Mac is a solar-fueled microwave transmitter powerful enough to melt through even reinforced titanium. It was intended to lead to further development in long-range communications, possibly pointing the way to transmitting data across the stars.
History: (Machine Man I#16) - The scientists of the Chem-Solar Corporation held a demonstration of the Sol-Mac, with Delmar Insurance agents Eddie Harris and Aaaron Stack (secretly Machine Man) in attendance. After the demonstration proved a success, the premises were invaded by the villain Baron Brimstone, who had come to steal the Sol-Mac. Although Machine Man attempted to stop him, Baron Brimstone blasted him in the chest with the Sol-Mac, causing him terrific damage. Brimstone escaped with the device.
Baron Brimstone subsequently sent out his Satan Squad to help him steal the components needed to mass-produce the Sol-Mac. Machine Man anticipated that they would require gold for shielding, and caught the Satan Squad as they were attempting to steal the bell from the cathedral of St. Gabriella of the Highlands. Baron Brimstone again turned the Sol-Mac on him, but Machine Man had shielded his vulnerable points with gold, and was able to stun Brimstone. Machine Man then dismantled the Sol-Mac.
