History: (Marvel Vision#14 - Timeslip) - Upon his transformation into Galactus' herald, Norrin Radd's mind was manipulated so that he would feel no guilt in leading Galactus to inhabited planets. Soon, Galactus realized his mistake when not only guilt was removed from the Silver Surfer's mind but loyalty as well. The Surfer soon began to lust after command of Galactus' ship himself and sought out components to construct a weapon that would nullify Galactus' existence. Eventually, the Surfer did destroy Galactus and with his dying breath, Galactus restored the Surfer's mind and explained the nature of his insatiable hunger. Finally confronted with all that he had done, the Silver Surfer learned of the tragedy that would befall the universe with the death of Galactus and decided to take over where Galactus had left off. He then recreated Galactus' ship into a giant cosmic sliver that would tear through outer space, destroying everything in its wake. After years of destroying worlds, Norrin Radd's heart, soul, and conscience had disappeared along with his mercy, turning his body gaunt as the cosmic rays that gave him life ate away at him.
Comments: Created by Jim Krueger and Jeff Smith.
The Silver Surfer's reality diverged from Earth-616 when the Surfer opted to destroy Galactus and command his ship, events that would have preceded Fantastic Four I#48.
