"UNKNOWN ALIEN OBJECT"
Classification: Extraterrestrial technology (?)
Creator: Unrevealed
User/Possessors: Uatu the Watcher
First Appearance: Fantastic Four I#29 (August, 1964)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: Unrevealed
History:
(Fantastic Four I#29 (fb) - BTS) - Centuries ago, the Watcher discovered a mysterious object in a remote galaxy; having no idea what it might be, he took it back to his home on Earth's moon for further study.
(Fantastic Four I#29) - When the Fantastic Four were marooned on the moon's airless surface by the Red Ghost, the FF made their way to the Blue Area and into the Watcher's home for refuge. Although the Watcher was away in a far-distant galaxy, he sent a spectro-image of himself to greet the heroes. He welcomed them to seek shelter, but warned them not to tamper with any of the alien artifacts within his home. After the overly-inquisitive Reed Richards had a slight mishap while handling an "Evolution Accelerator," his attention was caught by the mysterious object, and the Watcher had to admit that even he didn't know what it was.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
So I guess the Watcher still hasn't figured out what it is... or he might have learned that it was just something trivial in the cosmic scheme of things and is embarrassed to admit it (i.e. Maybe Uatu's studies traced it back to the Celestials, and he learned that it was basically their equivalent of a discarded candy wrapper or some such).
