AQUANOX race
Classification: Semi-icthyoid extraterrestrial race
Location/Base of Operations: Planet Aquanox ("or
something like that"), presumably within the "Shi'ar galaxy";
Aquanox is described as a "water planet," presumably
indicating that significantly more of its surface is covered by water than
Earth's (which is about 71% covered by water))
Known Members: None identified
Affiliations: None identified
Enemies: Starjammers (Ch'od, Corsair/Christopher Summers, Hepzibah, Raza Longknife)
First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men#391 (March, 2001)
Powers/Abilities: The Aquanox are large, presumably
carnivorous aquatic creatures; they are presumably adapted to the dark,
pressures, and cold of ocean depths. They have 3-4 sharp boney claws on their
pectoral fins/limbs, and multiple long, sharp teeth.
It is unrevealed whether they can survive for any length of
time out of their aquatic environment. It is also unrevealed whether their world
is covered by fresh water, salt water, or some other liquid different than
water.
Traits: It is unclear whether the Aquanox are simple, predatory creatures or whether they are an intelligent/sentient species.
Type: Bilaterally symmetric semi-icthyoid
Eyes: Two (on head; yellow seen - possibly a distortion from their aqueous
medium)
Fingers: Three (or possibly four) bone-like claw structures on their
pectoral fins/limbs
Toes: Unrevealed (from the limited views, they do not appear to have
claws/toes on their pelvic fins/limbs)
Skin color: Green (unless that is just how they looked under their
aqueous medium)
Average length: Approximately 10-12'?
History: Next to nothing is none of the past of Aquanox.
(Uncanny X-Men#391 (fb) - BTS) - Not long after the founding of the Starjammers, the founding four members hid out on the planet Aquanox, apparently floating in an ocrean. Their food supply ran out the first week.
(Uncanny X-Men#391 (fb)) - The Starjammers reasoned their would be a good supply of fish to eat below the surface of Aquanox, so they donned so scuba-like gear and (at least Corsair and Raza) swam below the surface. They were unpleasantly surprised to be approached by a trio of monstrous, hungry/angry-looking Aquanox.
Comments: Created by Scott Lobdell, Salvador Larroca, Tim Townsend, and Larry Stucker.
Aquanox is the name of the planet...the race's name may vary...
Since the Starjammers were active in the
Shi'ar Empire, I would presume they would be hiding out somewhere in the "Shi'ar
galaxy"
The Shi'ar galaxy was erroneously identified as the M31 galaxy, aka
the Andromeda galaxy, in Annihilation prologue. More definitive information,
including a map and text within that same issue, clearly contradicted this.
--Thanks to Donald Campbell for clarifying this matter!
The Andromeda Galaxy (M31) has long been identified as the galaxy in which the Skrull Empire was located.
In contrast, the exact location of the "Shi'ar Galaxy" has never been officially determined but it has been suggested that it is actually the Triangulum Galaxy (M33).Shi'ar Galaxy was finally identified as M31 in Annihilation Prologue is factually correct. However, once one examines the rest of the text of those entries from the Xandar Worldmind Nova Corps Database is becomes very clear that that single reference is actually a mistake. While one section of the text states that the Shi'ar Empire is "Believed to be located in the region known as M-31 on a star map" there are several other references in the rest of the text that make it absolutely clear that the Andromeda Galaxy and the Shi'ar Galaxy are two entirely separate galaxies. My best guess is that whoever wrote the text for the database meant to say that the Shi'ar Empire was "believed to be located in the region known as M-33 on a star map" - but s/he made a typo.
Second, information from the Annihilation: The Nova Corps Files handbook states that the Shi'ar Empire spans their entire galaxy so they are definitely not sharing the Andromeda Galaxy with the Skrull Empire.
Third, the Annihilation Prologue contains a starmap showing the relative locations of the Andromeda Galaxy, the Shi'ar Galaxy, the Greater Magellanic Cloud and the Milky Way Galaxy. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Can't really tell for sure if they're supposed to be fish creatures with limbs, or carnivorous frogs, or what...
