Powers/Abilities: Duane Cochran was a charming, popular singer with (possibly) a good singing voice and guitar playing abilities. He dressed really, um, hip for his era.
History:
(Our Love#21/1 (fb) - BTS) - Duane Cochran established himself a singing career and was popular with the youth, but not the "older" generation of concerned parents.
(Our Love#21/1 (fb)) - Various girls became obsessed with the singing sensation, especially Cheryl (or Cher to her friends), who watched his performances on television (much to the dislike of her parents) and fan magazines. Cochran was later booked for a one night stand at Cheryl's high school and she went to great lengths, hoping to impress the teen idol. She bought front row seats and waited outside until Cochran pulled up in his limousine. Cheryl caught Cochran's eye and he invited her out for dinner after the show, stating that he normally picks his date after a concert. The love-smitten Cheryl thought that every one of Cochran's songs in that performance was for her, and they later met for dinner, although his manager was there too, talking shop. After the manager left, Cochran and Cheryl drove off in a sports car where they watched the moon rise. Although they kissed (see comments), Cochran declared that she was too good for him as she wanted to settle down and raise a family, and he was still committed to his touring singing career. He dried her tears and said that he'd never forget her. That last kiss would stay with Cheryl forever...
(Our Love#21/1) - Years later, Cheryl related her experience to her sister, Carrie, who was likewise obsessing over a contemporary popular singer.
Comments: Created by Joy Jackson (writer), Jim Mooney (pencils) and Ernie Chua (inks).
That is one scary outfit. I'm still having nightmares.
There seems to be a gap between the panel where they're about to kiss in the car in a secluded spot and the next panel where Cochran says "That was great", after which they head off in the car.
Presumably Duane Cochran was his real name, not just his stage name.
This story was later reprinted in My Love#32/1 (January, 1975), which is where the images are from.
