Membership: Grain Belt, Meadowlark, Pioneer, Sunflower, Topeka
Purpose: Protect Kansas
Affiliations: Fifty State Initiative
Enemies: Hyperion (zombie clone)
Base of Operations: Kansas, USA
First Appearance: Marvel Zombies Supreme#2 (May, 2011)
History:
(OHotMU vol.5 (update)) - The Harvesters represented Kansas as part of the Fifty State Initiative.
((Marvel Zombies Supreme#2 (fb) - BTS) - The Harvesters were dispatched to deal with a super-powered zombie.
(Marvel Zombies Supreme#2) - The Harvesters confronted the zombified clone of Hyperion that had escaped from Project: PEGASUS. The Hyperion clone had already devoured the tainted cattle aboard a Roxxon triple-trailer rig. The Hyperion clone then attacked and ripped Topeka apart before blowing Grain Belt away with his super breath. Sunflower was set ablaze by the zombie clone's eyebeams. Run down by cattle skeletons animated by Pioneer, the Hyperion clone was next confronted by Meadowlark's melody, but the zombie clone devoured him anyway. The zombie clone next charged at the defiant Pioneer; however, his heightened metabolism processing the Roxxon toxins destroyed him before he could reach her.
Comments: Created by Frank Marraffino (writer), Fernando Blanco (pencils), and Jason Paz & Fernando Blanco (inks).
Topeka is the capital city of Kansas, so it may be that his powers were city based. Alternatively, Topeka apparently means "to dig good [prairie] potatoes" in the languages of the Kansa and the Ioway, so perhaps his powers were root based.
Profile by Grendel Prime.
CLARIFICATIONS:
The Harvesters have no known connections to:
Grain Belt was composed of grains that kept human form when restrained by his belt. Wise-cracking, he attacked the Hyperion zombie clone after Topeka's death, but had his form instead widely dispersed by the clone blowing a powerful breath.
His powers seemed similar to those of Sandman, so it's possible that he might have been able to re-form.
--Marvel Zombies Supreme#2
Meadowlark had limited flight capability and could communicate only in bird tune. Meadowlark used his power to try to soothe the Hyperion clone and send him to sleep. The zombie devoured him instead.
--Marvel Zombies Supreme#2
Pioneer was linked to the land and had the power to animate skeletons, sending cattle skeletons at the Hyperion clone. She was defiant and brave, readying herself as the last standing Harvester against the zombie before he fell dead before her. She sensed that the Roxxon cattle had been infected with mad cow disease and that this was what had finally stopped the zombie.
--Marvel Zombies Supreme#2
Sunflower was a powerful plant-based humanoid. His strength was augmented by the sun and his punches were able to knock back the super-powered zombie. Despite his high dexterity, Sunflower was incinerated by the Hyperion clone's eyebeams.
--Marvel Zombies Supreme#2
Topeka was the leader of the Harvesters (self-described "Head of State") who confronted the Hyperion clone. The zombie flew at him and ripped him apart, instantly killing him.
