Powers/Abilities: Krakatoom was a towering domineering creature with a protective energy field and the power to incinerate. However, too much energy would cause him to disintegrate, although he could reintegrate himself later.
History:
(Amazing Spider-Man II#657 (fb)) - In the woods in upstate New York, Spider-Man helped the Fantastic Four against the "cosmic" threat of Krakatoom. The five were unable to stop the creature until Spider-Man grounded Krakatoom's energy field, causing it to fail. The Human Torch, Thing and Invisible Girl all struck at Krakatoom in unison, causing him to explode in a blast of energy. Mr. Fantastic's sensors indicated that Krakatoom's energy may only have been dispersed and that he could reintegrate himself. The five set up camp to monitor the situation. Bored, the Human Torch set up a trap for the Thing and built a Krakatoom effigy from burning wood bound with webbing and laden with mud.
(Amazing Spider-Man II#657) - In the wake of the Human Torch's apparent demise, Spider-Man recalled the adventure with the other three members of the Fantastic Four.

The outfits, hairstyles and interaction indicate that the confrontation took place in the very early years after the FF were formed.
In the kitchen at the Baxter Building, the Thing sips from a cup that's labeled "Krakat- Coff-", his fingers obscuring the rest. Seems like there's Krakatoom Coffee out there.
Krakatoom appeared to have a technological headset on; maybe he's a member of an alien or separate Terran species? And yes, Mr. Fantastic identifies Krakatoom as a "him".
