History:
(Sub-Mariner Comics#4/3 (fb) - BTS) - Captain MacDonald commanded the old steamship Elsie K and traveled between England and the USA with supplies during World War II. MacDonald had explosives hidden in the ship's hull linked to a timer.
(Sub-Mariner Comics#4/3) - The Elsie K, transporting bricks to England, was suddenly confronted by the U-900, the latest and most advanced submarine of the German U-boat fleet with a fearsome reputation. The German captain, Von Hultner, demanded to know what the ship was carrying and MacDonald lied that it was carting food to tempt the Germans to move alongside the ship, rather than sink it. Threatened with the destruction of his ship and his crew by the captain of the submarine, Captain MacDonald let the Germans board his aged vessel. His racist defiance earned him a blow from a rifle butt and he lay sprawled on the deck while the Germans inspected the cargo hold, finding food crates that fooled them into believing that was the actual cargo. He and his crew were then ordered to leave the old steamer using the lifeboats. Minutes later, the explosives detonated, destroying the Elsie K and the submarine along with its entire crew. MacDonald had his men row to the debris where they found only scattered remnants. Four hours later, they were rescued by a passing convoy, with the British Navy jubilant upon learning of the U-900's destruction.
Comments: Created by Mickey Spillane (writer).
This was a text-only story appearing in Sub-Mariner Comics, but the novelty lies more in the creator with the publisher.
The title of this tale was "Fresh Meat for a Raider!"
Perhaps it's not exactly canon, but not not canon ...
