History: (Amazing Fantasy I#17 (fb)) - Charles "Charlie" Murphy grew up a friend of Peter Parker, enjoying days of birthday parties and games of chess. As Charlie and his friends entered Junior High School they drifted apart from Parker, who remained part of the group even with his interest in science taking up much of his time.
(Amazing Fantasy I#17 (fb) - BTS) - Befriending Eugene "Flash" Thompson during his freshman year at Midtown High School, Charlie turned his back on Parker. (Untold Tales of Spider-Man#3) - Charlie discussed Spider-Man's recent defeat by Sandman with friends, suggesting to them that the approaching Parker probably hadn't heard the news yet. (Amazing Spider-Man I#17) - Attending the inaugural meeting of the Forest Hills Spider-Man Fan Club, Charlie asked club organizer Flash Thompson when Spider-Man was expected to arrive. Excitedly watching as the wall-crawler made his grand entrance, Charlie joined the crowd as they breathlessly watched Spider-Man tangle with the Green Goblin (who used Spider-Man's announced appearance as an opportunity to avenge himself against his hated foe). (Amazing Spider-Man I#28) - Graduating from Midtown High School, Charlie remarked to a friend that he felt 200% smarter wearing his mortarboard (prompting his friend to joke about Charlie having a flat head). After gathering to listen to Daily Bugle Publisher J. Jonah Jameson's commencement address, Charlie and his classmates received their diplomas from Principal Davis.

Charles "Charlie" Murphy's full name was revealed in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z Vol. 11's Spider-Man's Friends & Associates profile (under Midtown High).
Charlie presumably attended the Midtown High reunions seen in Amazing Spider-Man Annual I#17 and Marvel Knights Spider-Man I#7, but was unidentified in those issues (the profile for Seymour O'Reilly guesses that Charlie is one of the two attendees seen with him in Marvel Knights Spider-Man#7).
Profile by G Morrow.
