History:
(Spidey Super Stories#12/3)- The Purple Pirate Gang ran afoul of the law when they tried to board the ferry without paying. Knocked en masse into New York Bay, Spider-Man fished them out along with a message in a bottle. Puzzled by the seeming gibberish of the message, Spider-Man vowed to take it to the one man who could help him: Fargo North.
Unseen by the web-head, Evil McWeevil eavesdropped on the wall-crawler. Deciding the message could be a clue to treasure, Evil swore to steal it. Hearing the name Fargo North, Evil used a nearby phonebook to find North’s office. Rounding up the rest of the gang, Evil announced his intent to steal real pirate treasure. Racing toward North’s office, the gang listened in as North's decoding machine decoded the message. Hearing the message, the gang raced to New York Bay to steal the treasure of Captain Kidd.
Arriving at the same time, the Purple Pirate Gang tried to fight Spider-Man, but the wall-crawler easily subdued the gang and turned them over to the police.
