History:
(Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#48) - During the War
of the Seven Spheres the Trinity of Ashes were assigned to fight the
Vishanti, their opposing forces.
(Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#57 (fb) - BTS) - Pura-Shamutra became an agent of the Trinity of Ashes during the War of Seven Spheres.
(Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#57 - BTS) - Jarakk, an agent of the Vishanti, fought Pura-Shamutra on the planet Gevaltu and defeated Pura-Shamutra with the help of Urthona. Pura-Shamutra's death caused a cosmic imbalance in the War of the Seven Spheres.
(Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme#58 - BTS) - Dr. Strange helped restore Pura-Shamutra, who revealed to Strange that he participated in the war to keep it balanced, so that the Trinity could never reduce its warriors to the level of savages.
(Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme Annual#4/2 - BTS) - The Trinity of Ashes attempted to conquer the Dark Dimension during the War of the Seven Spheres. They were opposed by Dormammu and other enemies like Fatalis and Slorioth.
(Doctor Strange VI#6 (fb) - BTS) - During the War of the Seven Spheres the Trinity of Ashes opposed the Vishanti on a hundred fronts with armies on both sides in the tens of millions. The Trinity had the advantage, but then Doctor Strange joined the war on the Vishanti's side and over the next few thousand years became the feared war-hound of the Vishanti only known as General Strange.
(Strange III#9 (fb) - BTS) - Doctor Strange fought the Trinity during the War of the Seven Spheres.
(Doctor Strange VI#6 (fb)) - In year 3,812 of the War of the Seven Spheres the Trinity of Ashes manifested directly, forcing General Strange's army to retreat.
(Strange III#9 (fb) - BTS / Doctor Strange VI#6 (fb)) - In year 5,000 of the War of the Seven Spheres the Trinity of Ashes sued for peace because they were afraid of General Strange. The Vishanti accepted their terms and agreed to their one condition--the life of General Strange. The Vishanti stripped General Strange of all his memories of the war and locked them away in a crystal.
(Strange III#9 (fb) - BTS) - They never forgot what Strange did to them during the war.
(Strange III#10 (fb) - BTS) - They were terrified of Strange because they saw what Strange had become during the war.
(Doctor Strange VI#7 - BTS) - After General Strange escaped the crystal he sought to reignite the War of the Seven Spheres against the Trinity of Ashes and finally win it. The Trinity of Ashes were aware of his escape and took steps against the threat.
(Strange III#9 (fb) - BTS) - The W.A.N.D. agent later known as Director None heard the whispers of the Trinity of Ashes in the darkness between the stars. They promised interesting things.
W.A.N.D. fell and the Blasphemy Cartel picked up the pieces. Director None made contact with the Trinity of Ashes.
(Strange III#7 (fb) - BTS) - To gain their patronage Director None had to erase every aspect of his identity from reality so they could show him unimaginable things that would've otherwise destroyed him. The Trinity of Ashes became the Blasphemy Cartel's Management.
(Strange III#9 (fb) - BTS) - The Blasphemy Cartel created the Revenants to use them as agents against their enemies and to stir up pain and chaos, which the Trinity liked.
Because the Trinity sought to walk on Earth the Blasphemy Cartel created Revenant Prime (the Sentry), a gestalt being of one hundred million ghosts, as the future vessel for the Trinity.
(Strange III#10 - BTS) - Harvestman (Stephen Strange) and Clea merged into a single being to destroy Revenant Prime and release the one hundred million ghosts, which destroyed the Blasphemy Cartel's Emerald City HQ and everyone within it. In his final moments Director None begged the Trinity of Ashes to save him, but his plea was ignored.
(Doctor Strange VI#8) - With the looming threat of General Strange bringing the War of the Seven Spheres to Earth, Doctor Strange met with the Trinity of Ashes and made a deal with them. They empowered him so he could take out General Strange.
(Doctor Strange VI#9 - BTS) - Doctor Strange channeled the magic of the Trinity of Ashes through him in his battle against General Strange, who was now more than willing to kill him due to his alliance with the Trinity. General Strange used a magic-negating Mysterium dagger, Clea had tried to kill him with, to stab Doctor Strange and cut him off from his connection to the Trinity and any other kind of magic.
(Doctor Strange VI#10 - BTS) - Despite losing the power of the Trinity, Doctor Strange incapacitated General Strange with the help of W.A.N.D. and then crafted part of his own conscience to General Strange to return the compassion, which he had removed during the War of the Seven Spheres, to him.
(Doctor Strange VI#12 - BTS) - The Vishanti were miffed at Doctor Strange for making a deal with the Trinity of Ashes. He defended this move by telling the Vishanti that he did it because the Trinity were willing to aid him against General Strange unlike the Vishanti.
Comments: Created by Len Kaminski & Geoff Isherwood.
Though it was never actually revealed it can be assumed that Griefsavor was the sword-shaped member of the Trinity, Mother-of-Pain the seven-legged creature within a ring and Ygmlosvorraich the gentleman clothes.
As mystic principalities the Trinity of Ashes can be invoked, but I know of no instance this was done.
