Powers/Abilities: Weed was a plant that had been nourished by cosmic Orgone energy to become a telepathic and sentient, carnivorous predator. Ingesting part of it would render the person zombie-like and easily influenced. It stood about 12 feet tall with fanged tendrils covered in tiny spines plus spiked arms. Its tendrils gave it slow mobility.
History:
(Doc Samson II#2 (fb) - BTS) - Dr. Schnellageister expanded on Wilhelm Reich's theories on Orgone energy, developing a plant that grew into a telepathic predator calling itself Weed, which would be fed susceptible humans influenced after eating a small part of it. Weed was kept hidden in a barn at the New Orgonon settlement.
(Doc Samson II#1) - Dr. Schnellageister brought another plant-drugged resident to the hungry plant.
(Doc Samson II#2) - Doc Samson and his colleagues, the Living Totem, Jack Holyoak and Tina Punnett, arrived at Schnellageister's commune to investigate the disappearance of one of Samson's colleagues, Sam Larouquette. The Living Totem immediately felt Weed's insidious presence in the barn and charged forward, but was expelled by Schnellageister. The commune leader then let Samson unwittingly eat some of the plant with Samson very quickly influenced. Doc Samson's three team-mates escaped, passing the barn where Weed had now emerged, hungry for more meat. Schnellageister then stood by Weed and told the plant's submissive followers that they had to relocate, but Holyoak and Punnett returned with weed killer. The chemicals severely hurt the plant, which nevertheless wrapped the two in its tendrils. The Living Totem reappeared and fired a nearby Orgone energy projector at Weed, which was ripped apart from being overloaded with Orgone energy. With its death, Weed's influence over the people ended.

CLARIFICATIONS
:
Weed has no known connections to:
Wilhelm Reich was a controversial psychiatrist in his day and set up a settlement he called Orgonon at his Maine estate. His theories on cosmic Orgone energy and plant enhancement to alleviate psychoses was taken up by Dr. Schnellageister, who began a splinter group. Although heavily criticized at the time, he was considered a martyr by Dr. Schnellageister.
--Doc Samson II#2
Dr. Arick Schnellageister formed a splinter group from Reich's community and pursued Reich's theories on harnessing Orgone energy and plant mutations. He hoped to spread Orgone energy around the world, ultimately controlling humans using Orgone-enhanced plants. He seemed critical of "Amerindian" culture. Schnellageister's research led to the creation of the carnivorous and sentient Weed, which he fed with people who had been influenced after eating Orgone-enhanced vegetarian food. Initially suspicious of the visitor, he offered Orgone-affected food to Doc Samson, who quickly came under its influence. Schnellageister planned to relocate the settlement after Samson's team-mates escaped, but was too late. Schnellageister mourned Weed's death and was presumably turned over to the authorities by Samson.
