Powers/Abilities: Xom was a one-eyed, peaceful and tame pet but had a formidable size and was very resilient against beam weapons. Its movements and gait was quite slow but its ivory from its teeth (which were over 10 feet high) was highly prized. Xom's lifespan was well over a thousand years.
History:
(World of Fantasy#18/6 (fb) - BTS) - Xom was the pet for the original inhabitants of the planet Pollux 134, but its owners died out, leaving the massive creature alone and contained in an enclosure. A thousand years later, space pirates arrived on the planet. Hunting for ivory, they tried unsuccessfully to kill Xom for its ivory.
(World of Fantasy#18/6) - Philip Lindsay's archaeological planetary expedition encountered the pirates, who pretended to be the planet's natives, and requested the Earthmen's help to destroy Xom, whom they claimed had arrived from outer space and was threatening them. Lindsay and his crew tried to help the aliens kill Xom, but their weapons likewise proved ineffective. Xom seemed to feel the gunfire nevertheless, and very slowly lumbered toward its attackers. However, Lindsay soon discovered that Xom was actually the native of the planet and broke off the attack. Xom was then left in peace when Lindsay forcibly removed the space pirates off Pollux 134.

Xom was likely the last of its race. It's unknown how it could survive that long in its walled enclosure.
The space pirates sorta look like the aliens seen on the cover of Tales of Suspense I#3.

CLARIFICATIONS
:
Xom has no known connections to:
Philip Lindsay was a cosmic archaeologist and was an expert in deciphering hieroglyphics. He hailed from the year 2744 surveying planets and came across an unchartered planet. Initially fooled by the aliens he met, he led his crew's fruitless attack against Xom until discovering the creature's true origins from an ancient plaque that he had quickly deciphered. He then had the alien space pirates cornered and taken off the planet.
--World of Fantasy#18/6
The space pirates were from an unknown space-faring extraterrestrial race that could quickly adapt to foreign languages. They were one-eyed like the creature they hunted. The uniformed pirates sought the ivory from Xom but were unable to destroy the behemoth. The pirates tried to fool Philip Lindsay and his crew of their true intentions, encouraging them to kill Xom. However, their greedy plan was soon revealed, and they were taken off-planet and dropped off at a nearby space patrol station.
