Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Atom-Sphere was
a small nuclear
device built to destroy Earth.
History:
(Avengers
I#76) -
Using knowledge plucked from the mind of a captive Earth
nuclear physicist, the Polemachan Grand Vizier constructed the
Atom-Sphere. When Arkon came to check on the Vizier’s progress in
extracting
the physicist’s knowledge, the Vizier revealed the fully constructed
Atom-Sphere and explained that one needed only to hurl the Atom-Sphere
at a
target on Earth and the resulting explosion would illuminate Polemachus
for
centuries. Not concerned with Earth’s destruction, only for the
continued
safety of Polemachus, Arkon took the Atom-Sphere and placed in a safe
location.
When the Avengers arrived on Polemachus seeking to rescue the captive
Scarlet
Witch, Arkon quickly grabbed the Atom-Sphere and teleported to New York’s
Empire
State Building. Preparing to hurl the Atom-Sphere to the ground and
destroy
Earth, Arkon battled the pursuing Avengers but the battle was
interrupted when
the Vizier mentally contacted Arkon and informed him that Iron Man had
devised
a device capable of restoring Polemachus’ life-giving energy field. No
longer
needing to destroy to Earth to illuminate Polemachus, Arkon abandoned
the
battle and returned to his own dimension.
