History:
(Avengers
I#80
(fb)) – Jason Birch accompanied Cornelius
Van Lunt to Wolf Point, Montana, where Van Lunt attempted to pressure
the
Native Americans there to sell their reservation land. Interrupted
during their
attempt to pressure the Talltrees family, Birch and Van Lunt were
driven from
the Talltrees home with Van Lunt warning them that they had made Jason
angry
and that he couldn't be responsible for what Jason Birch would do. The
following
night, Jason and another goon drove past the Talltrees home and opened
fire,
killing Thomas and Rebecca Talltrees, and injuring their son Will.
Months
later, Will (in his new guise of the Red Wolf) tracked Jason and
Cornelius Van
Lunt to New York City, where he stalked the two criminals. Choosing to
go
after Jason
Birch first, Red Wolf stalked him through New York.
(Avengers
I#80) – Red Wolf
continued to pursue the terrified Jason. Fearing for his life, Jason
opened
fire on Red Wolf but his shaky hands disrupted his aim and he missed
every
shot. Noticing the strangely garbed Red Wolf, the Avengers’ Vision
investigated
and prevented Red Wolf from killing Jason. Following a brief fight, the
Vision
took the defeated Red Wolf to the Avengers to learn more about his
story. The
battle between the two heroes allowed Jason Birch to escape. Upon
hearing Red
Wolf’s story of the murder of his parents, the Vision agreed to help
Red Wolf
bring both Van Lunt and Jason Birch to justice. With Scarlet Witch and
Goliath
accompanying Vision and Red Wolf, the heroes set off to search for Van
Lunt and
Birch.
(Avengers
I#81) – Gathering a
small group of thugs together in Montana, Jason Birch used one of
Cornelius
Van Lunt’s
Zodiac attack crafts to shoot down the Quinjet belonging to Vision,
Scarlet
Witch, Goliath and Red Wolf. Surrounding Vision and the injured Scarlet
Witch,
Birch announced his plans to kill all of the heroes present. Vision
surrendered
to save Scarlet Witch, and the two heroes were quickly taken to
Cornelius Van
Lunt’s mansion. Van Lunt attempted to bribe the Vision into working for
him and
when the Vision refused, Van Lunt had Jason threaten Scarlet Witch,
forcing
the Vision
to comply. Not long after, Jason Birch announced that the Cheyenne
Nation had
arrived at Van Lunt’s mansion door with Goliath. While Goliath was
forced to
battle the Vision, Jason noticed that Red Wolf and another group of
Cheyenne
were atop the nearby dam. Figuring that they planned to blow up the
dam, Jason
accompanied Cornelius Van Lunt to the dam site, where he opened fire on
Red
Wolf. Scarlet Witch quickly used her hex spheres to prevent Red Wolf
from being
hit, but the hex also caused the dam to rupture, prompting Jason Birch
and many
other Van Lunt gunmen to flee.
