CLAYVILLE CHAPTER
OF
THE MR. FANTASTIC FAN CLUB
Membership: Unrevealed, but most likely the fan club
was exclusively female
Purpose: To swoon over Mr. Fantastic in every way
possible
Affiliations: Fantastic Four (Human Torch/Johnny
Storm, Invisible Girl/Susan Storm, Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards,
Thing/Ben Grimm)
Enemies: No official foes, but they were involved in
a heavy rivalry with another, unnamed chapter of the fan club. They
probably didn't care for all the villains out to kill their idol either
Base of Operations: Clayville, New York
First Appearance: Fantastic Four I#14 (May, 1963)
History:
(Fantastic Four I#14 - BTS) - When news broke that the Fantastic Four were on their way back to Earth after having succesfully landed on the Moon, throngs of reporters, fans and well-wishers flocked to New York's Idlewild airport where the team was expected to land their moon-ship. Among them were members of the Clayville Chapter of the Mr. Fantastic Fan Club.
(Fantastic Four I#14) - As the Fantastic Four approached the landing strip, they noticed the crowds waiting for them. Mr. Fantastic told his teammates they'd be mobbed, but Reed was actually the one who garnered the most attention. Mere seconds after the FF got out of their space craft, members of the Clayville Chapter of the Mr. Fantastic Fan Club broke through and stormed on to the tarmac towards their hero. Unfortunately for the Clayville membership, another unidentified local fan club wanted the elastic hero all to themselvess. The two groups of frantic women would have torn the flexible Mr. Fantastic apart, if not for the timely intervention of the Torch who used his heat powers to generate an unsual warm-air funnel that lifted Reed and the others back to the Baxter Building.
Comments: Created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers.
Remember way back when Reed and Sue weren't an item? With an anything but modest codename like Mr. Fantastic, Reed certainly caught the ladies' eyes...but he only loved Sue. Also: Johnny Storm came up with the idea to generate a massive heat-funnel that somehow only picked up his three teammates from the crowd? Ahhh, the 60s...Profile by Norvo.
