History:
(Captain
America I#383) – Attempting to kill Captain
America and allow his spirit to live on, the Elder of the Universe
Father Time
tricked Cap into following him into the Land of Legends, a world that
seemed to
change based on the individual time periods that its inhabitants were
plucked
from. Unable to find Father Time once he had arrived, Captain America
soon
found Johnny Appleseed, who thought he was still in 1794 Ohio.
Appleseed
informed Cap that he had seen an old man on top of a nearby mountain
and Cap
decided to locate this mountain. Almost immediately after he left
Johnny
Appleseed, Cap found himself in a landscape resembling Old West-era New
Mexico,
where Cap ran afoul of the tornado-riding Pecos Bill. Thinking Bill was
crazy
for attempting to ride a tornado, Cap ducked for cover from the tornado
only to
find himself on railroad tracks. Soon finding himself face-to-face with
the
steel-driving John Henry, Cap continued his search into a nearby wooded
area
that housed the legendary giant Paul Bunyan, who helped Cap reach the
top of
the mountain. Once at the top, Cap found himself facing Uncle Sam
rather than
the expected Father Time. Father Time soon revealed himself and his
plans to
kill Cap and allow Cap’s spirit to reside in the Land of the Legends
with the
other legendary figures Cap had already encountered. Unwilling to die,
Captain
America furiously battled Father Time with all of his will, despite
Father Time’s
aging of the hero. Realizing how determined Cap to return to his own
life,
Father Time returned Captain America to Earth.
