History:
(Avengers
I#101 (fb) – BTS) – With Robert Fisher unable
to attend due to an upcoming chess world title, eastern Europe’s Yuri
Sporadnik
was contacted to play chess against the super-computer NIMROD.
(Avengers
I#101 (fb) – BTS) –
Leonard Tippit was tasked with killing comrade Sporadnik to “save the
Earth” by
the cosmic Watcher.
(Avengers
I#101) - Picked up
by the Avenger Hawkeye, Yuri Sporadnik
was taken to a Stark plant where he was to play chess against NIMROD.
Realizing
that they were already off-schedule, Sporadnik hurried the start of the
chess
match. During the heated match, Sporadnik had to briefly leave for a
bathroom
break and upon his return, he touched a specific pawn and was poisoned
by
Leonard Tippit, who had secretly hidden inside NIMROD to assure his
plot was
successful. Taken immediately to a hospital, Sporadnik became comatose.

Ellison, Roy Thomas, Rich

first name was
revealed in the Avengers Assemble one-shot (July, 2010). That book also
revealed that his home country was Russia, whereas in Avengers I#101,
