Powers/Abilities: Dr. Lew Stephens was an altruistic and gifted, Ph.D.-graduated scientist who undertook cellular research to improve health. He also enjoyed being a mentor to younger, aspiring researchers.
History:
(Thor the Mighty Avenger#2 (fb) - BTS) - Dr. Lew Stephens conducted research into chemically restoring body tissue, although he later found his formula likely led to severe mental deterioration. This nevertheless drew insidious interest from various people and corporations, and he turned down lucrative offers from Praxechem and Krask Chemicals due to the dangers of his discovery. For unknown reasons, Stephens fired Calvin Zabo, who wound up in jail, and Stephens burned his notes - although he secretly kept the crystals required to activate his formula.
(Thor the Mighty Avenger#3 (fb)) - Henry Pym showed Stephens a new formula that could alter size which contained the key ingredient he had already dubbed the Pym particle. Stephens cautioned Pym to use his science with humanity and compassion. Later, Pym thanked Stephens for his help and advice. Stephens emphasized the importance of passing science on and inspiring others to undertake scientific research that benefited people's health.
(Thor the Mighty Avenger#2) - Years later, finally released from jail, Zabo used Stephens' formula for months to increase his body's size and strength, but needed more of the crystals to catalyze the reaction. Zabo tracked Stephens down and demanded the remaining crystals from Stephens at gunpoint. Stephens defiantly refused, so Zabo shot him after finding where they had been hidden.
(Thor the Mighty Avenger#3) - Henry Pym was saddened by the news of Stephens' death.
