History:
(Original Sins#2/1 (fb) - BTS) - Rebecca Stevens was a historian researching the Black Knights' heritage and the Ebony Blade. She met Dane Whitman at the opening of the Black Knight Museum and had a book published, Black Knight: Black Legacy. Some time later, Whitman had again fallen under the dark influence of the Ebony Blade and brutally assaulted a thief in the Savage Steel armor. Soon after, Stevens was near one the secrets-revealing eye bombs from the deceased Watcher which revealed to her Whitman's secret attack.
(Original Sins#2/1) - Stevens tracked down the now
reclusive Whitman to an apartment to confront him about the addictive
and destructive Blade, and what he had recently done under its
influence. She pleaded with him to surrender the Blade to authorities,
but he refused, turning her away.
(Black Knight IV#3 (fb)) - Still concerned for
Whitman's welfare, Stevens approached Steve Rogers' Avengers Unity
Squad with evidence of the now stronger Ebony Blade's increasingly
destructive
influence over the Black Knight with his brutal attacks. The Avengers
were too late to stop the Black Knight escaping to the otherworldly
Weirdworld.
(Black Knight IV#1) - Whitman established New Avalon
as a principality on Weirdworld after executing a local king.
Three months later, Stevens arrived with the Avengers Unity
Squad to investigate how far Whitman had been corrupted by the Ebony
Blade.
(Black Knight IV#2) - Stevens ducked from the
fighting between Weirdworld forces and the Avengers Unity Squad.
(Black Knight IV#3) - Stevens watched as the Avengers
were able to finally take the sword away from the Black Knight in front
of the various factions represented on Weirdworld.
(Black Knight IV#4) - The Avengers continued their
intervention and locked Whitman in a cell of his castle. Stevens tried
to reason with Whitman, who acknowledged the Blade's subversive
influence, but also asserted that he was the one who could handle the
responsibility. However, New Avalon troops loyal to Whitman arrived and
freed him. With the two forces at an impasse, Stevens suggested that
she stay with Whitman and help him overcome his Blade addiction while
the Avengers return to Earth with the Ebony Blade. All agreed except
Whitman; the Blade was nevertheless carried away by Steve Rogers.
(Black Knight IV#5) - The Ebony Blade's corrupting
influence took over Steve Rogers and he incapacitated the Unity Squad
before they could leave in their Quinjet. Doctor Voodoo's spirit form
went to Whitman's cell where Stevens and Whitman's two chiefs were, and
asked for the Black Knight's aid. Whitman regained ownership of the
Ebony Blade and with Merlin apparently intervening, those assembled
learned that Whitman was the rightful one to wield it. Stevens stayed
with Whitman on Weirdworld as the Avengers departed.

Rebecca mentions in
Original Sins#2 that she met Dane
at the opening of the Black Knight museum. Though it isn't explicitly
said to be the opening, we see Dane visiting the museum in New
Excalibur#10, and the way he is talking to someone there (Miss
Sterling, who is either a Black Knight historian or in charge of the
museum, given how she dresses and her knowledge of the exhibits and
past Knights) comes across like it is his first time discussing the
exhibit with her. Anyway, it might be worth noting that the opening may
have been what we saw in New Excalibur#10, making Rebecca BTS there.

The Ebony Blade's power seemed magnified on
Weirdworld and it wouldn't surprise me if the "corruption" of Steve
Rogers (with the non-lethal attacks) by the Blade and "Merlin's"
appearance in Black Knight IV#5 were just charades manifested by the
enhanced Blade to be reunited with Whitman.
