History:
(Hawkeye IV#2 (fb) - BTS) - This Swordsman was trained by Jacques DuQuesne (the original Swordsman). He later adopted similar purple garb to that of DuQuesne and joined Ringmaster's new circus venture, Cirque du Nuit, in an effort to steal from the audience, adopting a fake French accent.
(Hawkeye IV#2) - Hawkeye (Clint Barton), undercover with Kate Bishop, attended Cirque du Nuit, but used special spectacles that prevented them from getting hypnotized by Ringmaster. Hawkeye recognized similar methods of handling weapons in Swordsman and his knife-throwing act. Investigating later, Hawkeye was knocked out and brought before Swordsman, who expressed disappointment in the former fellow student of DuQuesne, but also knew the archer was dangerous. Concerned about having a dead Avenger during the operation, Swordsman told his fellow criminals to hold him and kill him later. However, Hawkeye escaped. Furious, Swordsman carried two sabres to use against Hawkeye, but the archer used an arrow that bounced off a wall and hit Swordsman in the back of the neck, injuring his nerves, and he fell to the floor, apparently (or at least partially) paralyzed.
(Hawkeye IV#8) -The Swordsman sat next to the Ringmaster as the New York crimelords discussed how to eliminate Hawkeye (Clint Barton).
(Hawkeye IV#22) – Ringmaster and the knife-thrower agreed to participate in a hit on Hawkeye.
