History:
(Avengers
I#80 (fb) – BTS) – While his son Will was
living in New York as a construction worker, Thomas Talltrees and his
wife
Rebecca were pressured by tycoon Cornelius Van Lunt to sell their
reservation
land.
(Avengers
I#80 (fb)) – Will arrived
home on the reservation to find the corrupt Cornelius Van Lunt at the
Talltrees
home, pressuring them once more into selling their land. Angry that Van
Lunt
had nearly pressured Thomas into signing a deed to the land, Will
ordered Van
Lunt and his operative Jason Birch out of their home. As he left,
Cornelius
warned that the Talltrees had made Jason Birch angry and that he would
not be
held responsible for anything Birch might do. Not even a night later,
Jason
Birch and another goon drove past the Talltrees home and opened fire,
killing
both Thomas and Rebecca, and giving Will a flesh wound. Swearing
revenge, Will
donned the ancestral garb of the Red Wolf and climbed Wolf Point peak
in an
effort to summon forth the Wolf Spirit, Owayodata
for help in avenging his
parents.

Phil and Min were an
American tourist
couple who visited the Montana Native American reservation where the
Talltrees lived.
While there, Min noticed a young Will Talltrees and commented to Phil
that they
should take Will home and raise him civilized. Phil instead just told
Min to
hand him his ulcer pills. They then drove off, unaware that Will was
growing
tired of the Americanization of his Native American home.
