History:
(Spidey Super Stories I#25 - BTS) - Eager to destroy Spider-Man, Doctor
Doom built a twin machine in his base in a New York City warehouse. The
twin machine could copy anyone who stood before its sensors which were
installed inside a giant, seemingly inconspicuous-looking mirror which
hung right outside the hidden lair. Doom managed to lure Spider-Man to
his base and secretly created Web-Man while Spider-Man thought he was
simply looking into a mirror, unaware Doom was even there. Web-Man went
out to destroy Spider-Man but the two fighters proved too evenly
matched. The bio-duplicate then lured him back to Doom's base and
maneuvered Spider-Man in front of the mirror again, allowing Doom to
make another copy: Webby-Two.
(Spidey Super Stories I#25) - Quickly joining the fight by coming in through another window, Webby-Two politely asked: "mind if I join you?" before suggesting to Web-Man that they trap the wallcrawler with their webbing. As soon as Webby-Two showed up, Spider-Man realized he was outmatched and dove through the mirror, landing inside Doom's base. Much to the Doctor's shock, the destruction of the "mirror" also caused the two Webbies to vanish into thin air. Without his protectors, the armored villain was powerless before Spider-Man, who rapidly webbed up Latveria's monarch and told him he'd be going to jail.
Comments: Created by Jim Salicrup, Nicola Cuti, Bill Mantlo (writers), Winslow Mortimer (pencils) and Mike Esposito (inks). Both Webby-Two and Web-Man never took off their masks
but if Doom's twin machine really did its work, we can assume both his
hair and eye color match that of the real Spider-Man.
Apparently, it took three writers to plot and script this innocent,
little 13 page kids' story? Guess that goes to show no single person
can come up with the amount of groan worthy, gawdawful puns included in
the average Spidey Super Story.
