History: (X-Factor I#10 - BTS) - Through unrevealed circumstances, Zeek was cast out of regular society. He found his way to the sewers, where he joined the Morlocks, an underground mutant community living in the drainage system of New York City.
(X-Factor I#10) - When Mister Sinister sent his henchmen, the Marauders, to "purify" the mutant population by exterminating the Morlocks, Zeek and his friends Erg and Beautiful Dreamer were attacked by Arclight, Blockbuster, Harpoon, Sabretooth and Scalphunter. Erg grabbed the physically weak Beautiful Dreamer and, together with Zeek, ran towards one of the tunnels hoping to escape the massacre. However, Zeek wasn't quick enough to escape Harpoon's energy spear and died on the spot. Erg, still holding Dreamer, tripped over another corpse with the Marauders approaching. Their end seemed imminent but both Erg and Dreamer were saved by X-Factor members Cyclops, Beast and Iceman, who had come to protect the Morlocks from the Marauders. However, they arrived too late to save Zeek.
Comments: Created by Louise Simonson (writer), Walter Simonson (pencils) and Bob Wiacek (inks).
It's very well possible that Zeek belonged to the Drain Dwellers, seeing as he was friendly with both Beautiful Dreamer and Erg.
"Zeek" is the phonetic pronunciation of the more common "Zeke," which itself is short for Ezekiel, a prophet mentioned in the Judeo-Christian Bible tradition. "Ezekiel" is a book in the New Testament that focuses on prophecies and visions of the future that Ezekiel experienced. If that was supposed to be any clue to his unrevealed powers, you'd think Zeke was prescient, though not too trained, otherwise you'd think he'd have been able to foresee the Marauders' attack. -- Norvo
