History:
(Spidey Super Stories#14/4 (fb) - BTS) - Birthday Bandit developed a reputation for stealing from birthday celebrations.
(Spidey Super Stories#14/4) - Birthday Bandit entered
a house through an open window where Dickie Landon's parents had just
set the birthday table with treats for their son, but left it
momentarily unattended. Birthday Bandit gleefully grabbed everything to
do with the birthday party, including the cake, presents and party
favors, hauling it away in a giant sack. Returning, the shocked parents
immediately suspected Birthday Bandit and it made radio news; the
report was heard by Spider-Man, who went to investigate. Meanwhile,
Birthday Bandit spied birthday party preparations underway at the Daily
Bugle newspaper office for editor J. Jonah Jameson. However, Spider-Man
was quietly watching Birthday Bandit and followed him. Birthday Bandit
entered the unoccupied office holding Jameson's birthday surprises, but
suspected the giant cake secretly hid Spider-Man, so he mashed it. But
Spidey was behind him and webbed him up. Outside, Daily Bugle staff
accompanied Jameson into the office, but seeing Spider-Man, whom he
despised, Jameson flung ruined cake at the escaping Spidey while
Birthday Bandit remained webbed up in the office corner.
Comments:
Created by Jean Thomas (writer), Win Mortimer (pencils), Mike Esposito
& Tony Mortellaro (inks). Based in the Electric Company script by
Sally Compton.
This character shows there is a difference between the worlds of Spidey Super Stories and the Electric Company television show. The TV episode excludes Jameson as the birthday recipient and the last party is not held at the Daily Bugle offices.
Regular cast member Jim Boyd played the campy Birthday Bandit in the TV episode. You should be able to find it on YouTube.
