History:
(Sub-Mariner I#13 (fb) - BTS) - Gargantos was a well-known creature by the Lemurians who feared it would one day destroy their city. Their ruler Naga imprisoned Gargantos in the dungeons of Lemuria's colloseum where it was kept under control by several guards
(Sub-Mariner I#13) - Once Naga had captured the Sub-Mariner he forced the Atlantean prince to fight in his arena to the death. While Naga, Kharton and the Lemurian citizens watched, Namor fought the weapons-men from the abyss, after defeating them Naga ordered the guards to unleash Gargantos. Seconds later Gargantos used his tentacles to break through the arena's massive stone floor and faced Namor. Although fighting with all of his might Namor sensed he was but a sea-borne straw to the behemoth and decided to go limp to feign collapse. Namor's plan was successful as Gargantos left him for dead and focused his attention on the Lemurian citizens gathered in the arena. Namor then grabbed a spear and succesfully attacked the behemoth's eyes. Once Gargantos was blinded it almost hit Naga with one of his tentacles. Enraged at the beast, Naga used the powers of his serpent crown to kill Gargantos.

Though its origins are entirely unrevealed, I wouldn't be too surprised if Gargantos turned out to be of Deviant origin, like most of the colossal creatures of the era.
