Powers/Abilities: Henry Pym is a highly
intelligent researcher who discovered size-altering Pym particles. He
applies this to heroic activities, ingesting Pym particles via pills that allow him to grow to about 40' tall,
and he can interact with ants, with which
he can also communicate via a specialized helmet. This helmet has an
articulated jaw-collar piece plus extendable antennae, which can emit
electronic signals that can influence people's actions. Pym
also created a two-person flying mechanized vehicle in the shape of an
ant plus a hand-held biotracer.
History:
(Thor the Mighty Avenger#3 (fb)) - As a young
researcher, Henry Pym proudly showed his mentor, Dr. Lew Stephens, the
development of Pym particles, drawing from Stephens' tissue
regeneration research. The two discussed the potential benefits for
food distribution. Stephens encouraged Pym to use his research with
humanity and compassion.
(Thor the Mighty Avenger#3 (fb) - BTS) - Pym
developed his Pym particle research further, developing a
pheromone-emitting helmet that helped him communicate with ants, and
crafting a flying ant-themed two-person vehicle. His positive
activities attracted publicity and he teamed up with wealthy socialite
Janet Van Dyne, developing a wasp-themed outfit for her in a private
research facility in upstate New York.
(Thor the Mighty Avenger#3) -
Pym was saddened after
hearing of Stephens' violent death and traveled with Van Dyne in his
flying ant-craft to his mentor's home. Pym used his helmet to bypass
the police guard at the murder site. Pym's biotracer detected non-human
residual energy (actually from the murderous mutate Hyde), which was
similar to that of the exiled Thor, who they found nearby. Pym
giant-sized up, but Loki had meddled with Thor's mind, so Thor instead
saw Pym as an aggressive Frost Giant. Pym and Thor fought until Pym
blasted electronic noise to stop his opponent, although this also
knocked out Pym and he fell onto train tracks. Quickly recovering, Thor
stopped an
advancing train, and Pym and Thor reconciled.
(Thor the Mighty Avenger#8) - In strife underground
against Moloid-like creatures, Giant-Man and Van Dyne were unable to
respond to Jane
Foster's call to aid Thor, but Pym contacted his friend Tony Stark
(Iron Man) to help
out instead.
