GRANDMASTER'S TRI-SPHERE
Classification: Presumably extraterrestrial
device
Creator: Unrevealed
User/Possessors: The Grandmaster (En Dwi Gast)
First Appearance: Avengers I#69 (October, 1969)
Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Grandmaster's Tri-Sphere was an artifact that could house the Grandmaster's champions while he played the Game of the Galaxies. Normally, the Tri-Sphere would hover around either Grandmaster or his opponent at normal size but when either player's champions were transported onto the Tri-Sphere, it would grow in size to accompany the champions and their opponents. The Tri-Sphere was capable of hovering in the air and once champions had been deposited onto it, it could spin at high speeds and transform itself in a virtual battlefield for the champions playing the Game of the Galaxies.
History:
(Avengers I#69 (fb)) - When Kang the Conquerer bemoaned his lack of
power over life and death, the cosmic Grandmaster appeared, with his
floating Tri-Sphere floating behind him, and offered Kang the power
over life and death if he could beat Grandmaster in a great game,
warning that if Kang lost the game, he would face oblivion not just for
himself but for the planet he ruled.
(Avengers I#71 (fb)) - The Tri-Sphere hovered near Grandmaster as Kang agreed to the Grandmaster's offer of power, won by playing the Game of the Galaxies against Grandmaster.
(Avengers I#69) - One hour
later, Kang summoned the
Avengers to fight in his Game of the Galaxies against the Grandmaster
and when they arrived, the Grandmaster's Tri-Sphere was floating near
Kang. The Tri-Sphere continued floating as Kang explained the situation
to the Avengers and that Grandmaster would return in one hour. After
the Avengers reluctantly accepted to spare the life of Tony Stark, whom
Kang had kidnapped, the Grandmaster returned and the Game of the
Galaxies began when the Avengers were placed upon the
enlarged, floating Tri-Sphere. Before the Avengers could question who
their
opponents were, the Tri-Sphere spun, transforming into a planet where
the Avengers found themselves faced against the
Grandmaster's Squadron Sinister.
