History:
(Spidey Super Stories#35/4 (fb) - BTS) - The woman
who would become the petty thief dubbed Godmother had a friend who
became ill. She was godmother to her friend's daughter and struggled
to feed the baby, but also had a gambling addiction.
(Spidey Super Stories#35/4)
- Selling pizza, she turned to petty theft to support the baby and her
gambling. She sprinkled extra pepper on pizza slices so that buyers
would sneeze uncontrollably; while they were distracted, Godmother
would pick their pockets. Rita the Director was filming a wedding
including Spider-Man as an actor near her store, but Rita and several
others were pick-pocketed by Godmother, who then rushed off with the stolen money. However,
Spider-Man saw the crime and followed her, aided by a secretly placed Spider Tracer. Godmother lost her money
while gambling with cheating card-sharks at a gambling den. Only then
did Spider-Man confront her, so she explained the situation, also showing the baby to him. Spider-Man webbed up the cheaters and
demanded they return her money; they complied. Spidey encouraged her to return to work
and Godmother declared she'd learnt a lesson not to put pepper on pizza.

No indication if she received any help for her
apparent gambling addiction. But the price of cold soda went up at the
end of the story.
In the final panel, the baby is eating a pizza slice (yikes!).
Godmother is likely a vague reference to the Godfather film series of an Italian-American crime family.
