History:
(Spidey Super Stories#10/5 (fb)) - Keen to be
rid of a large, fire-breathing dragon scaring his people, King Arthur
ordered his court sorcerer, Merlin, to concoct a magic sleeping potion.
However, at the final stage of
Merlin's cooking, the time-jumping giant dog Lockjaw instead bounded
through the cauldron's smoke, carrying with him Spider-Man and the
Short Circus band from the 20th Century. Merlin declared the potion was ruined and King
Arthur angrily ordered his knights to put the time-traveling
interlopers into jail, but Spidey instead led an escape, overpowering
the knights. King Arthur was upset that the dragon problem remained, so
Spidey and Short Circus said they would help. King Arthur and his knights
took the time-travelers into the forest, where Lockjaw guided them to
the dragon. Spider-Man webbed up the dragon while the band sent him to
sleep with a lullaby. Just as King Arthur declared them heroes, Lockjaw
returned to the 20th Century with his friends.
Comments: Created by Jean Thomas (writer), Win Mortimer (pencils), Mike Esposito & Tony Mortellaro (inks).
Although armed with a sword with a decorative hilt on
the issue's cover, this King Arthur is otherwise shown unarmed in-story.
I'm not convinced that this King Arthur's Merlin is the usual omniversal, disguised meddler, as this Merlin seems incompetent with magic. Nevertheless, Lockjaw was drawn through time to his magic potion, so...?
