History:
(Marvel Collector's Edition I#1/2 (fb) - BTS) - The
Krell planet had several orbiting, dimly lit, colored, planetoid-like
orbs. Krellians had developed into an advanced society with towers of
metal, obsidian and diamond. But their technology advanced too rapidly
and the Krellian's Master Computer violently turned against its
creators using an android army. Krellians were also aware of the
planet-consuming Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer.
(Marvel Collector's Edition I#1/2 (fb)) - The war
between Krellian and machine was brutal, leaving the Master Computer
ruling a barren planet 100 years later with Krellians hiding amongst
ruins, fearing the Master Computer's lethal androids, the Hunters of
the Host. Resistance fighters used blasters and laser swords.
(Marvel Collector's Edition I#1/2) - The last of a band of resistance fighters called the Light Raiders, Alas Longrun, riding a six-legged green horse-like creature, was attacked by a Hunter android, but was saved by the intervention of the now nomadic Silver Surfer, who was inspecting the devastated planet. The two were quickly attacked by a dozen more Hunters, but the androids were all destroyed (with the Silver Surfer's covert aid). Seeing Alas Longrun's defiance against the Hunters inspired other Krellians to stop hiding and instead take up the fight against the Hunters.
Comments: Created by George Carragonne (writer), Nelson (pencils), Steve Dutro inks.
I like to think that the dimly lit, colored, planetoid-spheres orbiting Krell were Krellian-generated power/light sources from a time when the Krellian race stood proud.
I'm guessing it was quite warm on Krell, hence the need for skimpy clothing.
Marvel Collector's Edition I#1 was a promotional comic that was a mail-away from Charleston Chew candy. It was set during the time that the Silver Surfer freely roamed space and fits continuity, so I think it can easily be considered canon.
Marvel Collector's Edition I#1 has 4 stories in it; this was story #2.
This story is almost a mash-up of Red Sonja meets
Terminator.
Profile by Grendel Prime.
CLARIFICATIONS:
Krellian race has no known connections to
The Hunters of the Host were humanoid armored metal
constructs that served the Master Computer. They rode flying metal
discs and and fired laser blasts from their wrists. Despite their
armored exoskeletons, they could still be destroyed by blaster weapons.
Alas Longrun's defiance against the Hunters (covertly aided by the
Silver Surfer) inspired other Krellians to take up the fight
against the Hunters.
