History:

(New X-Men I#140 - BTS) - After manifesting his mutation, Longneck enrolled at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

(New X-Men I#140) - Longneck was among the students and X-Men present when Bishop and Sage showed them the diamond bullet used to shatter Emma Frost's body, seemingly killing her in the process. With everyone still considered a potential suspect, the Summer holiday vacation was cancelled until the case was solved. Sage started analyzing and interviewing the student body, including Longneck. Bishop and Sage eventually solved the case and identified Esme Cuckoo as Emma's killer. A little while later, Beast was able to reassemble Emma's shattered diamond form which allowed Frost to restore herself.

(New Mutants II#7) - Longneck was seen playing pool with several students when Josh Foley sought out Sofia Mantega's help.

(New Mutants II#9) - Longneck was seen at the Institute attending a history class taught by Danielle Moonstar. When the bell rang, he and his fellow students made their way to the cafetaria for lunch.

(New X-Men I#149) - Recent X-Men recruit and teacher Kuan-Yin Xorn was eventually driven insane. In this delusional state, he believed himself to be Magneto. Dressing like the master of magnetism, the Chinese mutant assembled a Brotherhood made up of his former students (Xorn taught a special needs class which included Angel Salvadore, Beak, Ernst and others). With them at his side, he laid waste to most of Manhattan. Outraged by "Magneto" and ready to fight back, Longneck joined other students to form an impromptu X-Men street team. Setting up camp in New York's Mutant Town he was present when the Three-in-One brought in Beak and discussed what was going on.

(New X-Men I#150 - BTS) - Longneck was most likely also present with the X-Men street team in the final battle where Xorn (still disguised as Magneto) managed to kill Jean Grey by causing her to have a fatal stroke. He would then also have witnessed how Xorn was beheaded by Wolverine.

(New Mutants II#13) - In the wake of the Institute's destruction at the hands of Xorn, Longneck and the other students were temporarily relocated to a safehouse in Salem Center. With living quarters relatively cramped and crowded, Longneck got upset another student had trampled all over him.

(House of M#8 - BTS) - Longneck was one of the many millions mutants who lost their powers when a reality altering spell cast by the Scarlet Witch reduced the number of gene active mutants to a mere 300 worldwide.

(New Avengers I#17 - BTS) - Longneck's mutant energies joined with those of the other depowered mutants, creating the Collective, a massive force presence that ended up killing, among others, most of the members of the Canadian superhero team Alpha Flight.

(New Avengers I#18 - BTS) - SHIELD analyzed the Collective's multiple energy signatures and managed to identify Longneck's pattern, along with 50+ other victims of M-Day.

Longneck was identified in the the Xavier Student Body entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z HC#13.

A lot of sites online claim Longneck died post-Decimation when his neck snapped under its own weight, unable to sustain the weight of his head once he lost his powers. This comes from a misreading of Generation M#1, which reports such a death of a long-necked mutant. However, this mutant can't be Longneck, not unless his power also allowed him to change genders - the victim was one Jeannie Martin.
