lupus-planet-cr'reee-lt'al.jpgHistory:

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#1 (fb) - BTS / Marvel Pets handbook: Cr'reee profile) - After his mate, Lt'al, became pregnant, the Lupine named Cr'reee feared he was not ready for parenthood and fled Lupus. He was wanted for some, unspecified social crime of which Lt'al and her children were the victims (perhaps abandoning a pregnant mate, or something unrelated).

(X-Men I#104 (fb) - BTS) - Cr'reee joined the recently-formed Starjammers space-pirates.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#1 (fb) - BTS) - When coerced into revealing where his ship was headed by Corsair of the Starjammers, 000020, commander of a Shi'ar omega class freighter, unwittingly said "Phalkon" (an archaic name for the Phoenix Force) without voicing the proper codes.

As a result, a quartet of map pods containing information on how to locate the Phalkon were transported to four different worlds, including Lupus; a fifth map pod containing a homing beacon was sent to Chandilar (the Shi'ar homeworld), so that the Starjammers had to rush to get the Phalkon before then-Shi'ar ruler Deathbird.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#1 (fb) - BTS) - Cr'reee returnd to Lupus in hopes of recovering the map-pod there.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#1) - Cr'reee was swiftly discovered and surrounded by the police (all castorine people)

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#1 (fb) - BTS) - Cr'reee was imprisoned.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#1) - As chimes sounded and the gallows pole was readied for Cr'reee's hanging, a Lupine nun or priest or something -- along with another Lupine associate, and a pair of castorine guards -- arrived, presumably to read Cr'reee is last rites or something. Cr'reee insteady savagely leapt at and incapacitated the guards and fled the prison, despite the efforts of the prison guards; as multiple guards clubbed each other unconscious while swinging at Cr'reee, their bodies formed a pile high enough for Cr'reee to climb and then leap over the prison wall. lupus-planet-cr'reee-museum.jpg

Later, somewhat incognito, Cr'reee met with several unspecified beings -- including a few Lupine ladies of the night -- asking if they knew where he might find the map-pod, but came up with nothing.

Finally, he saw a newspaper advertisement picturing the map, and he headed off to meet his old friend Flex, unaware he had been spotted by Lt'al. He traveled to Flex's apartment and told him about the money they might make from stealing the map-pod from the museum. Wheere Lt'al showed up and greeted Cr'reee, showing him their children, Cr'reee fled by diving through a window.

Later that night-cycle, Cr'reee spied out as Flex broke into the museum. When the castorine police arrived and captured Flex, Cr'reee leapt after him but was caught in a police net; the police began beating him with sticks.

Having apparently entered the museum and obtained the map-pod, Lt'al (still carrying her babies) yelled something akin to "Stop!" Apparently getting out of the net, Cr'ree leapt to Lt'al, who had forgiven his crimes, dropped all charges, and recovered the map-pod for him.

As the police rushed at Cr'reee, Xavier/Waldo transported him, Lt'al, and their children up to the Starjammer.

Cr'reee, Lt'al, and their children were all gathered around Ch'od when Shi'ar ships attacked, sending them flying (and yipping) through the air. When the ship's hull was breeched, Ch'od secured Lt'al and the children, but Cr'reee was sucked through it (despite Hepzibah's efforts to catch him). Almost instantly, however, Waldo (the sentience of the Starjammer ship) snared Cr'reee with a force field/tractor beam and pulled him back inside the Starjammer before it re-sealed itself.
The others believed Cr'reee to have perished.

When Shi'ar troopers boarded the Starjammer, Lt'al and the children -- at Lilandra's instruction -- chewed through wiring that caused a door to swiftly shut, cutting the troopers off from the Starjammers.

Lt'al subsequently let out a fierce howl, and a quartet of the them (including Wiwarto, who had been frightened by the sound) pursued the source of the sound; when they located Lt'al, they attempted to atomize her. "Yeeping," she leapt away and dodged their fire, providing a distraction that allowed Raza and Binary to easily pick up these four troopers.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#2 (fb) - BTS) - The mourning Lt'al and children accompanied Ch'od and Corsair to depart the Starjammer into the smaller Starskimmer

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#2) - When the Shi'ar fired up on the Starskimmer, Corsair sent Ch'od to join Hepzibah in the hangar while he took care of Lt'al and the children (there now seemed to be like 18-24 of them!)

After the others returned to the Starskimmer, they made plans to retake the Starjammer. As Ch'od held Bt'al and the children, Hepzibah considered that Ch'od worried that Cr'reee's family had not had time to mourn.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#2 - BTS) - In the Starjammer's, loading dock, Waldo encountered Cr'reee.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#2) - As the Starjammers assaulted the Imperial Guardsmen in the process of retaking the Starjammer, Bt'al and her offspring swarmed over B'Nee (the smaller warrior component of Warstar), who asked for help.

When Corsair tried to stop Deathbird from stealing their Phalkon map information, Quasar (later Neutron) struck Corsair down, but before Quasar could finish him off, Cr'reee leapt at and surprised Quasar, who stumbled to the ground. Nonetheless, Deathbird obtained the map components and departed with Quasar.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#2 (fb) - BTS) - Cr'reee was reunited with his family.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#2) - Cr'reee and his family accompanied Ch'od and the other Starjammers to Earth in search of the Phalkon, which turned out to be the Phoenix Force, at that time bonded to Rachel Summers. This led to an initial confrontation with Excalibur, during which the family squared off against Lockheed and Widget. As they swarmed over Widget, he/it formed a portal presumably in hopes of banishing them, but even more members of their race emerged through the portal.

When the Imperial Guard arrived soon after, Cr'reee's family swarmed over Nightside, and she formed a darkness field, but this also blinded Magick, leading both she and Nightside to fall through a portal that Widget suddenly opened and then swiftly closed.

(X-Men: Spotlight on Starjammers#2) - Months later, Cr'reee and Lt'al, at least, accompanied Ch'od and the other Starjammers on a mission on "the farthest planet under the sway of the Shi'ar Empire (under Deathbird's rule)," sponsoring a group of local rebels to stand against the Shi'ar troopers stationed there.

(Marvel Pets handbook: Cr'reee profile) - Lt'al and the children eventually returned to Lupus.

Comments: Created by Terry Kavanaugh, Dave Cockrum, and Jeff Albrecht.

I would imagine that Lupus is in the Shi'ar galaxy, but that's unconfirmed. For further discussion on the Shi'ar galaxy, see the comments on the Aquanox profile.

According to Xavier/Waldo (who were temporarily merged at the time), the events observed of Cr'reee and Lupus were not "an exact representation of what Cr'reee was experiencing -- merely a telepathic 'anthropomorphication' of sorts that the Starjammers' 'limited intelligences' could comprehend. Cr'reee's mentality is far too alien for even Xavier/Waldo to be able to understand his language, except in spots."
So, what was seen in this issue may not be what actually happened, but it's all we have to work with. Certainly he was wanted for a crime against his mate and children, he conflicted with some for of authorities, had a friend, was reunited and forgiven by his mate, and recovered the map-pod. Costumes, apparently different types of beings, and any specific scenarios may have just been subjective interpretations of Cr'reee's thoughts by others.

Since we don't know how much of what we saw of Lupus is accurate, we really only know the adventures of Cr'reee and his family off of Lupus. I decided to present this profile with the information as shown in the story, and then to do a profile on the Lupine (Cr'reee's race) with only the information of which we are certain.
And, no, I don't know why they are called Lupine, which means "of or related to wolves." They are more like some sort of hairy mouse (murine), or weasel (musteline) type things. The name Lupan is at least less "off."; that's my preference.

Corsair described the castorine police as "Keystone Kops" (referencing the slapstick police from the Charlie Chaplin and Fatty Arbuckle, etc. silent films). Again, likely because this is how they were seen when Cr'reee's experiences were interpretted by others.

Cr'reee will get his own profile at some point. This profile is meant to detail the nature and history of the race and lesser members. There will be no attempts to detail Cr'reee's exploits that do not involve other members of his race.

It is not known whether all of the natives of Lupus are different sub-species of the same race, but for the purpose of this profile, the "Lupine" are specifically the white, musteline (weasel-like) beings similar in appearance to Cr'reee.

lupus-planet-cr'reee-flex.jpglupus-planet-cr'reee-flex-bumsrush.jpgFlex

Flex, as he seemed to be named, was a large and strong friend of Cr'reee.

Seeking out the piece of the map to the Phalkon and finding evidence that it was in a local museum, Cr'reee visited his old friend Flex. Initially irritated by someone knocking on his door, Flex was overjoyed to see his friend Cr'reee and picked him up.

Aftre carrying out a pair of apparently besotted associates, Flex then enjoyed some drinks with Cr'reee until the arrival of Lt'al and her babies. After Cr'reee fled, Flex said something, while Lt'al expressed that her heart was broken over Cr'reee.

Later, that night-cycle, Cr'reee watched out as Flex broke into the museum. The police soon arrived and swarmed over Flex, taking him down. Cr'reee leapt to his assistance, but was caught in a net. As Flex was moved into the paddywagon,
Lt'al (still carrying her babies) yelled something akin to "Stop!" Apparently getting out of the net, Cr'ree leapt to Lt'al, who had forgiven his crimes, dropped all charges, and recovered the map-pod for him.

As the police rushed at Cr'reee, Xavier/Waldo transported him, Lt'al, and their children up to the Starjammer.
