History:
(X-Factor III#17 (fb) - BTS) - Jamie Madrox, the Multiple Man, sent a
duplicate of himself out into the world to become a great detective,
hoping to one day reabsorb him and gain that knowledge himself. As he
was tasked to, the duplicate learned as much as he could about becoming
a detective, cramming a lifetime's worth of knowledge into the span of
a few years. Eventually, during his detective work, the duplicate
learned something so upsetting that he drove him to become an
alcoholic. At some point, the duplicate learned the true source of
Madrox's powers and considered killing himself to spare Madrox from
ever learning the truth. Deciding not to kill himself since he was
still on a case involving a corrupt police captain, the duplicate hated
the idea of dying pointlessly.
(X-Factor III#17) - During his quest to reabsorb his
rogue duplicates, Jamie Madrox used his link to his duplicates to track
the detective duplicate to Detroit, Michigan, where he found the
wayward duplicate watching the police surround a building. Confronting
the drunk duplicate, Madrox was informed that the duplicate knew Madrox
would be coming. When Madrox asked how the duplicate knew, the dupe
proclaimed himself the world's greatest detective and Madrox suggested
they go get coffee. Deducing that Madrox were merely trying to sober
him up before he was reabsorbed and Madrox absorbed the dupe's
drunkenness, the duplicate offered some of his alcohol to Madrox, who
declined it, stating that bad things happened when he drank. The
duplicate asked if by bad things, Madrox meant sleeping with people he
had not intended to, and Madrox quickly asked the dupe could know that
information. The dupe again proclaimed himself the world's greatest
detective and informed Madrox that becoming a detective would leave him
a drunk. The duplicate then revealed that he knew what was coming,
information about something called Uber and even the true source of
Madrox's powers. When Madrox questioned him, the duplicate admitted
that he didn't want Madrox to learn the true source of his powers and
had even considered killing himself to spare Madrox the pain. Revealing
that he was still on a case, the duplicate explained to Madrox about
the corrupt police captain and how the captain had arranged the murder
of a young officer who had discovered the truth. Explaining how the
captain had insulated himself too well, preventing the duplicate or
anyone else from exposing his corruption, the duplicate asked Madrox
what kind of world would allow evil to triumph while good looked on
helplessly. Madrox replied that it was merely the world they lived in
but the duplicate asked what Madrox meant by "we" before pulling out of
a gun and shooting the police captain, who was among the police
surrounding the building the dupe had been watching. Madrox immediately
considered absorbing the duplicate, drunk or not, but realized that the
police would not understand and suspect Madrox himself. The police
opened fire, killing the duplicate. As the duplicate lay dead, the
crying Madrox thought how the duplicate must have saw his actions as
killing two birds with one stone, the corrupt police captain that
couldn't be touched legally, and himself.
