History:
(Warlock I#11 - BTS) - Thanks to some of Adam Warlock's time-travel shenanigans which stopped the Universal Church of Truth (original recipe) from ever forming, Homeworld transformed from a tightly regulated fascist theocracy into a more anarchic kind of planet now called Sirius X. In the new timeline (but almost certainly not in the old), Mama Alpha has owned and operated Mama Alpha's Cabaret for quite a while.
(Warlock I#12) - After rewriting reality, Pip and Adam Warlock spent four days "indulging in vices" at Mama Alpha's, running up a tab. Pip and Mama Alpha had also been indulging in each other, and Mama felt that Pip really cared for her based on "all the things he said last night." Pip, however, probably was just toying with Mama's emotions to see if she would let him off the hook for the bar tab.
Adam left to go wander the stars as he was wont to do, prompting an outraged Pip (who was also thinking about hocking Adam's gold wrist bands to pay off his tab) to try and follow after him, jumping up from Mama's lap. He was planning on leaving with the excuse that he needed to follow Adam (and just ducking out on the bar tab), but Mama was more concerned with him staying so they could continue their relationship.
Pip then told her he didn't really mean all the things he said the night before, and Mama said "You were planning to take cruel advantage of my gentle nature and I thought you were different!" Mama, enraged, picked up Pip with one hand. Pip became very worried that she was about to bite his ear off, so he spilled a patron's drink with a kick.
Mama was apparently not the kind of bar owner who would replace a patron's spilled drink to avoid trouble, so one thing led to another, and Mama flattened him with one punch. Then his friends in the "Delphi Devils" (something of a cosmic motorcycle gang) got up and insulted and then attacked Mama, and the fight was on, with the whole bar joining in. The fight lasted nearly an hour, and Mama seemed to hold her own.
Pip, meanwhile, had snuck behind the bar and was drinking himself silly. He felt like he had learned an important lesson: "Never get emotionally involved with your bartender".
Comments: Created by Jim Starlin (writer, pencils), Steve Leialoha (inks).
Strangely (or maybe not all that strangely) Pip is concerned the entire time about his tab in his thought balloons, but Mama never once brings it up. She's a romantic at heart.
Mama Alpha's Cabaret seems like an awesome space bar. It's got western-style saloon doors, a floor show we never see but that Pip assures us "really stinks", tons of drunk lowlife aliens, and SQUARE DISCO BALLS. Yes, it really does. And all stories are better when they're set in space bars. I'm rather surprised that Starlin never visited it again.
Mama's hair is amazing. It's not just got star glitter in it or whatever, but actual stars that twinkle and supernovas and nebulas and basically looks like a Starlin or Kirby drawing of outer space. Not clear if it's a wig or part of her alien race, though I don't know how a species would evolve to have random space scenes in their hair. But you never know...
