N'Garai creature
Real Name: Unrevealed
Identity/Class: Extradimensional demon (N'Garai)
Occupation: Warrior
Group Membership: N'Garai
Affiliations: Belasco
Enemies: Vlad Dracula, Excalibur (Colossus/Peter Rasputim, Day Tripper/Jimaine Szardos/Amanda Sefton, Nightcrawler/Kurt Wagner, Kitty Pryde)
Known Relatives: Other N'Garai
Aliases: None
Base of Operations: Unrevealed;
at least formerly the dimension of the N'Garai
First Appearance: X-Men: Soul Killer (1999)
Powers/Abilities: The N'Garai creature was an immense, largely amorphous mass able to extend a seemingly limitless number of tentacles able to crush, whip, or throw others. It was largely composed of rubbery muscle, and superficial penetrating wounds did little to slow it down, while torn off tentacles were swiftly replaced.
It had a massive head that could change shape to mimic that of those it was fighting, and deep within its form was a brain-structure; if this was destroyed, the creature dissolved into slime.
A demon-creature, it was resistant to all but the most powerful forms of magic.
Height: Unrevealed and variable, but roughly the size of the Midnight Runner ship
Weight: Unrevealed, but roughly the weight of the Midnight Runner ship
Eyes: Variable in terms of number, size, and color
Hair: Variable (not true hair, just mimicking the appearance of hair on others)
History:
(X-Men: Soul Killer:
Chapter 9 (fb) - BTS) - With Excalibur having formed a temporary
alliance with Dracula against Belasco and en route to Natchez,
Mississippi via the Midnight Runner, Belasco attempted a negotiation
with Dracula; knowing that forging an alliance was unlikely, Belasco
simultaneously established a steady channel of magic from his sanctuary
to the ship; summoned a N'Garai monster -- "the last spawn of the Dark
Ones, a minnow among whales, an entry so paltry by comparison that
Agamotto's wards of imprisonment failed to recognize it for what it was
and bind it...if you can cope with its attention, then it will be time
enough to consider how you might fare against its kin."
(X-Men: Soul Killer: Chapter 9) - A split-second after Belasco's astral self vanished, the N'Garai creature impacted the Midnight Runner, which lurched as if it has been pounded by a giant fist. Kitty struggled to keep aloft the Midnight Runner, now non-aerodynamic and carrying nearly twice its weight/volume, with its windows completely covered; as they remained over a populated area, abandoning the ship was not an option.
Amanda's initial efforts to exorcise/banish the creature failed, but she continued her efforts. As the heroes opened a portal so Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Dracula could assault the creature, it extended numerous tentacles of varying size into the ship. Eventually Colossus tore open a large enough whole that the three could exit the ship and battle it on its hull. The creatures constantly extended tentacles to crush, whip, or try to throw off its attackers. When it began to extend more tentacles back into the ship, Amanda was forced to stop her efforts to banish it and instead use mystic blasts and shields to hold back the tentacles, although the creature continued to drive her back, towards Kitty in the cockpit,
Eventually Nightcrawler reached the creatures head, a 10' high structure that transformed at various intervals to resemble Nightcrawler's, Amanda's, Colossus', and Dracula's heads. As Colossus and Dracula also reached its head, they tore at the creature, which weathered the damage and constantly extended more tentacles to attack them. Finally, Colossus grabbed the edge of one of the previously created punctures and tore a large rent into the creature and entered it; though he did not breathe in his armored form, the acrid stench of its fluids almost unbearably foul. The creature tried to pull him out with tentacles, which he fought off, and then clenched him with its tissues like a powerful fist that threatened to immobilize or possibly even crush his armored form. Fighting furiously, despite the darkness and complete lack of visibility, Colossus forced himself ever further towards the creatures center as he thrashed his arms about to destroy anything they touched. Finally, his fingers raked through a lobed node of flesh softer than the dense rubbery meat surrounding, after which the the demon's body melted into lifeless slime.
Without anything on which to grip, however, Colossus lost his balance on the slimy layer and fell off the ship.
With Dracula apparently already fallen off, the Midnight Runner finally had its controls go dead; however, as they were now over the Mississippi river, Kitty allowed it to plummet into the water; Nightcrawler used a parachute as he could not cancel out via teleportation the velocity/inertia already affecting him; Amanda teleported to the ground; and Kitty phased out of the plane and descended slowly to the ground.
(X-Men: Soul Killer: Chapter 10 - BTS) - Dracula and the Excalibur members each made it back to the ground safely.
