History:
(Marvel Mangaverse: Punisher (fb) - BTS) - The Oni Yew hailed from the Shugo-Jigoku (hell) in which he and other Oni tormented sinners in a variety of ways. For instance, by having them climb up and down trees with razor-sharp leaves.
(Marvel Mangaverse: Punisher - BTS) - For unrevealed reasons, Yew arrived on Earth and came to serve Ho, the head of the Skang Kee crime family.
(Marvel Mangaverse: Punisher) - While Skang Kee Ho was taking a bath, Yew and Ho too spoke about the sightings of the Hulk in New York City (Marvel Mangaverse: New Dawn). Curious to see if they could "tame" the creature into serving them, Ho asked Yew if he would fear its strength. Yew, convinced he could make the creature obey him, boasted that if Ho wished it he would make it so. They were interrupted by one of Ho's maids who told them Ho family member Kusugutai (who was recently punished by the Punisher) wanted to meet with Ho. Kusugutai was convinced the Punisher would be targetting Ho next, leading him and Yew to prepare for her arrival.
Later that night, the Punisher did indeed attack, only to find the villains were ready for her. Yew broke out of the giant vase he had been hiding in and attacked. Seemingly afraid of the Oni, the Punisher evaded his attacks but failed as Yew successfully destroyed her weapons with his razor-sharp Shogu-Jigoku leaves. Grabbing a hold of her, he already considered himself the winner. But before he could kill her, the Punisher's little sister Hashi Brown entered the fray, armed with an ancient, mystical sword. She quickly sliced off Yew's claws before cutting him in half, killing him. Afraid to attack the girl or the Punisher the Skang Kee crime family allowed them to escape.

Due to the Asian specific nature of the Mangaverse reality, it goes without saying that while characters might look similar to their 616 counterparts, they most likely will have distinctly different names, codenames or powers. Therefore we will only list the names when they have been used in the comics. The Oni are part of the Yõkai, the supernatural monsters of Japanese folklore. They are depicted as demons, devils, ogres and trolls in Japanese art, literature and theatre. For more information on these remarkable creatures check their Wikipedia page.
