History:
(X-Men Unlimited II#10/1 - BTS) - After manifesting his mutation, Linus enrolled at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters where he took the codename Protozoa.
(X-Men Unlimited II#10/1 (fb) - BTS) - Protozoa was regularly bullied by his classmate Cudgel who often called him "amoeba boy" and would batter the student with his metal mallet hands. Protozoa had sought out the help of guidance counselor Alicia Downing who did her best to help him.
(X-Men Unlimited II#10/1) - Protozoa went to see Downing, unaware she had just quit after getting pranked by the students. Her replacement was Henry McCoy who came to the office to study Downing's case files when he noticed Protozoa was already there. Surprised by the news Downing was gone, Linus briefly explained his problem to Hank before cowering away in his amoeba form. Later that day Cudgel and two friends noticed Protozoa changing his shoes in the locker room and decided to mock him some more. Cudgel threw the cup of his jockstrap right on top of Linus' head, causing the easily frightened boy to shift into amoeba form. Cudgel then jumped on him, pounding Linus to a pulp with his metal mallets until even his friends were concerned about his safety.
(X-Men Unlimited II#10/1 (fb) - BTS) - After a few short weeks Protozoa was once again attacked in the locker room.
(X-Men Unlimited II#10/1) - Fed up with the abuse, Protozoa sought out Henry McCoy to ask him about Miss Downing. McCoy explained that until they could find a permanent replacement he was stuck with him. Still unwilling to talk to McCoy, Protozoa changed into his amoeba form and left his office. Later that night, Protozoa approached Hank in his own quarters, wondering if things would get better the older you get. McCoy noted that although most things would indeed change the loneliness wouldn't get easier. Realizing he had to come out of his shell and make friends, Protozoa asked if McCoy liked science fiction prompting McCoy to reveal the young student all about Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles".

Protozoa is an informal term for single-celled eukaryotes, either free-living or parasitic, which feed on organic matter such as other microorganisms or organic tissues and debris. Historically, the protozoa were regarded as "one-celled animals", because they often possess animal-like behaviors, such as motility and predation, and lack a cell wall, as found in plants and many algae.
Protozoa's codename has been revealed in the Xavier Institute entry of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z HC#13 (2010).
